Oh I know. I was kidding around.
Like I said, I'm still kicking around the ideas. The thing I really like about the RO/VOD lord is the teleporting scoring unit and the ejector seat to avoid phase out if things get hairy.
I'd rather use the Nightbringer though. His ability to ID thunderwolves is something I'm pretty sure I'll need in Chicago.

Mephy is fearless so he can't be pinned

Decivers ability ignores that stuff. I also beleave that in the FAQ it says the unit takes wounds for every point ti fails the test by. But that could just be a regular moral test. And not a pinning test i would have to double check.

Deceive lets you force a morale test or pin units even if they are normally immune.
If you force meph to make a morale test, he has to make saves by the amount he loses by. If you force him to make a pin test and he fails, he is pinned.
While the NB can potentially ID thunderwolves, the Deceiver has the ability to respond to multiple threats i.e. charging thunderwolves to tie them up so they can't charge Warriors, then hopping out to charge them again or to fight a weaker unit. He can also pin/break one unit (potentially) while he fights another. But, you seem to have a pretty good handle on Necrons so go with whatever you're more confident with. The NB will be way more useful against Dark Eldar, Orks, potentially IG, and maybe even Tyranids.
I still say the 200 point lord is way too expensive. The only way I would ever take a Lord in this edition is naked in a no C'tan list so you'd have the other 1750 points to pack in max bullets (which probably isn't enough without a C'tan). You would have to go 2nd for the RO/VOD Lord to even have a chance of holding an objective, and then it's still a pretty big gamble. The Lord makes the Warriors a 400 point unit that can't beat 10 tactical marines if they get charged, I've just never had a good experience with it in 5th ed.

Yeah man totally make that Ld10 model take morale tests. If he rolls a 12 he has to take two 2+ saves!

Did you read what I said about pinning the Ld7 model if you bring pariahs?

If you spend a bunch of points and get the model in the right situation you could get him to Leadership 6...

The Lord makes the Warriors a 400 point unit that can't beat 10 tactical marines if they get charged, I've just never had a good experience with it in 5th ed. It actually works pretty well for me. It makes it pretty much impossible to phase out, there's the objective thing (which works even if you didn't go second if your Destroyers and Monoliths do enough damage) and it also helps in KP missions when you pop enough transports and smaller units to ensure that they'd have to phase you to win and they can't catch your warriors! Now that you're talking about it though I can really see the benefit of 4 more Destroyers instead of the Lord, though... It's great advice and I can't really argue your logic but the Veil is good too, at least in my experience.

It's more important that you use whatever you're most familiar/comfortable with than what some bro on the internet says is better. Playskill/style > theoryhammer any day of the week,

It's more important that you use whatever you're most familiar/comfortable with than what some bro on the internet says is better. Playskill/style > theoryhammer any day of the week, Very very true. I don't think that discussing it with people who actually know what they are talking about hurts either though. I know you've been playing Necrons for a long time, and whenever I want to talk to people who actually know how the game is played I like to come here run through some ideas. Basically it has confirmed what I originally thought. Play with what you know. Changing stuff up before a tournament is a terrible idea, generally speaking. Thanks fellas!

Thread retitled because you don't need to make a new thread every time you have a question about Necrons.
