The much rumored WFB winter campaign is about to begin. A six to nine week campaign (depending upon winter weather, sustained interest, etc.) with a megabattle to end it all around the end of March.
Backstory follows up on our last two campaigns and the epic Battle of Harma-Gheddon. Time for our new crop of emerging warband leaders to vie for the Keys to a Kingdom.
Accumulate points by defeating your rivals in pitched battle, or by plying them with your diplomatic skills (you will also need some of them to support you in your bid to become King), and at the same time by exerting your political influence amongst the common folk in the surrounding territories.
Campaign is designed to be flexible so folks can battle as much or as little as they want and still have a change to win (without hopefully, being too complicated!). Special victory point system should keep us all guessing as to the potential winner until the very end.
First place will go to the person with the most combined victory points. Second place will go to the person the winner chooses as his Prime Minister - his most Loyal Lieutenant throughout the campaign. (So, if you don't think you can win a kingdom it is not all that bad to have been licking the boots of the future king!)
2000 point armies. Map based with some twists.
I'll be at the store (weather permitting) on Tuesday 1/26 and Thursday 1/28 to get things started. Don't worry, if you can't make those dates we can ease into the first turn over a couple of weeks.
Who is in and what army will they play?
Your army does not need to be painted. Heck, you really don't even need to have 2000 points - you can build up to that while getting others to fight some of your larger battles for you.

I'm in. Not sure about the 26th but can make the 28th.
Give me a day or two to think about which army. Most likely Empire.

Just a clarification - folks do not need to show up for both the 26th and the 28th unless they want to. I just thought it would make sense for me to be up there twice in the first week to get the campaign started, etc.

I hope we get more than 4 people interested, hopefully a few are still thinking about it.
I might regret it but I have decided to do Empire for sure (can't wait to be minced up by those pesky Dwarfs).
Was wondering what army Steve is going to be using?
I think the rules look good and it should be fun.
Not to gain any tactical advantage or anything but I wanted the other players to know I can be bought at a fairly reasonable price! Let the games begin!

I think Chuck may be in as well so there may be five of us. What army am I using? Well, dwarfs and empire are already taken. That narrows the choices down to Lizardmen, Tomb Kings, or Dark Elves. I'll keep people guessing (which means I haven't decided yet myself).

Well, since my life has decided to mimic the Dark Eldar codex and go into a string of "Next month"s, I think I'll be entering, although I may have to drop near the end.

Finally, a reason to work on my Ogres. I will try to make it! Weekdays are rough for me, but I will make every effort.

I'll who I can when I can. Tuesdays and Fridays are the nights I'm currently there. It's time for me to break out my Dark Elves...they've been away for quite some time.

2000 points is going to be tough for me, I think. Let me see what I can rustle up... There will be a lot of plastic and metal on the table I'm afraid.

The campaign will allow people to field a total of 2000 points. That can be fielded as a 2000 point force or as two 1000 point forces or even as up to four 500 point forces. So you don't necessarily need to have all 2000 points at the beginning. Plastic and metal is fine! I think I have 3 Leadbelchers and 5 Goldfags Ogres I can bring them if you need some additional models to supplement what you have.

Here are the scenario rules.
The battle of Harma-Gheddon was a narrow victory over the combined forces of evil. You survived that battle. Or, if you were really smart, you never made it to that battle. Then you took your small warband and developed it into an army and conquered enough territory to keep it supplied with resources and men. Men now call your Sire, or Earl, or Count or Thane. But you want more. You know there is a vast power void out there waiting to be filled. Most cities, shires, and territories are without any defensive force to speak of and most noble families are left without a single adult male heir. A smart man (or Elf, or Dwarf, or Ogre, etc.) just might earn himself a crown. But the road will not be easy. The keys to the kingdom lay in demonstrating skill in battle, in exerting political influence over the commoners, and in diplomacy with the other players.
YOUR ASSETS: A home territory. A 2000 point army which can also can be divided up into 500 or 1000 point forces only. Four political influence tokens.
YOUR GOAL: Amass enough victory points to be crowned King. The King then chooses a Prime Minister – the other player who was his most loyal conspirator throughout the campaign.
VICTORY POINTS: Are earned in three ways: Battle Points – One point for being on the winning side in a battle. Political Influence – One point each turn for every three territory you control. Diplomacy – One point for each time you earn the favor of another player by doing something that puts him in you debt.
BONUS POINTS – At the start of the campaign each player secretly records the one category of the three above in which he will receive 3X his final tally and a second category in which he will receive 2X his final tally.
CAMPAIGN TURN – Each may place five tokens on the map each turn. These are a combination of Armies and Political Influence (PI) tokens. A player may place any combination of 5 ranging from one 2000 point Army and 4 PI tokens to 4 separate 500 point Armies and one PI token.
CONQUERING TERRITORIES – Determined in the order as follows: Player has an Army there and no other player does Multiple players have Armies there – battle winner, no winner - no change No armies there and one player has a PI there No armies there, multiple players have PIs, most PIs, no winner - no change
Hint – Here is where Diplomacy comes in. Three armies in a territory? Throw in with the guy who will grant you a Diplomacy point. If you win you both get battle points. Three players PI tokens in a territory? “Sell” yours to someone for a Diplomacy point.
FINAL MEGABATTLE – Of course there will be a Megabattle to end the campaign with lots of opportunities to kill things, win points, and influence people.

Would either Steve or Brian be opposed to picking me up on the way there either Tuesday or Thursday? I'd be greatly appreciative.
