Hi All,
I'm N'Steve's friend from Bennington. I'm also bringing a German infantry company with a lot of machine guns.
I have D Minus 1, but Das Book seems to be out of print for now. Can anybody tell me if Seize and Hold is different between the two books?

Mars - Sorry, I have Das Book but do not have D-1 so I don't know if they are different. I do own both and a quick check of the scenario shows that there appear to be no diffences except the special rules for the scenario are a little bit better organized in Das Book and most apply to the allied player anyway for example only the allied reserves can appear almost anywhere on the on the table edge, your reserves now appear only from your table edge. this is not really a change just a little better stated and organized Oh yes and what is called night attack in D-1 is called Dawn attack in DAS bookBe aware though in Das Book in the section labled prepared postions p.8 it states "that Immoble Artillery, heavy artillery and AA artillery if they use prepared postions do not gain concealment only bullet proof , this is a change from what it saids in the main rulebook p. 198

SHAEF is reporting that weather forecasts look outstanding for 31 July 2011 - errr - 1944 - and all indications are for a GO for the invasion!!!!
Meanwhile, all is calm and normal (just another boring summer in France - better than the Russian Front!!) for the German garrisons of the Normandy Beaches and of Sainte Mere Eglise, La Feire, and Pegasus Bridge.

The following I put together from some of N'Steve's posts and will use it as a guide for our D-Day event. It might be of use to scan through it.
(In putting together a 1000 CV German beach defense force you cannot get nearly enough but in a 1750 CT German airdrop defense force you hardly have enough roster slots to do it!!!!!)
The Layout:
2 rear tables set 4' end adjacent to 4' end, this creates a table that looks like 4' x 12', with each table being one of the airborne missions.
2 forward tables set with the 4' edge against the 6 foot edge of the back tables, making sure that the out side egdes line up (this would create a four foot gap between tables). These two forward tables would be the beach landings, one being British, the other being us. It should look something like this:
_______________________________ |........................|......................| |......................<|>....................| |____^__________|_______^_____| |........^ .....|\\\\\\\\\\|......^........| |................|//////////|.................| |................|\\\\\\\\\\|.................| |................|//////////|.................| |................|\\\\\\\\\\|.................| |__________|//////////|___________|
Players would be able to move from the front tables to the back tables by using bridges/roads as shown [approximately] by the arrows in the above diagram.
The Game:
We will keep our table layout as designed: Two rear tables with 4 ft edges adjacent, and two front tables with the 4 ft edge adjoining the 6 ft edge of the back tables.
Forward tables will use the hit the beach scenario as written in Das Book with no changes
Back tables will use the Seize and Hold airborne assault mission as laid out in Das Book with no changes.
Special Rules for our scenario (in addition to those in das book):
Due to the night rules associated with seize and hold, no tables can be crossed by either force until daylight breaks (this means at least no sooner than turn 3). IE if it is turn 5 and it is still "night" on the back tables, then you can not move from the back table to the front table, or from the front to the back. (read the night rules in das book for details on daylight breaking).
Tables can only be crossed on routes dictated by the game masters (bridges/roads) to simulate the restricted areas (flooded fields/minefields, raised roads) behind the coastal defenses.
Army Restrictions:
No German Armor Companies as primary armies as there were none on active alerts in the immediate invasion area, the 21st panzer was held in reserve and could only be released by Hitler.
No allied armor companies as primary armies as no armored division assaulted the beach in the first waves of the assaults.
ALL allied and German forces must be western Europe based for the invasion. This means that no allied late way forces from Italy and no German late war forces from Italy or Russia. As these forces were no around for the invasion.
Scoring:
Scoring will be based on the number of objectives held at the end of the game, who ever holds the most objectives at the end of the game wins.
Game Play Schedule:
0900 Arrive to put your armies together, German players please arrive NLT than 0900 so you have time to choose and place your coastal defenses
Play will Start at 10 AM Sharp, if you are late we wont wait.
Play will continue from 10 AM to NOON
Lunch Break from Noon to 1 PM
Play will Start again at 1 PM Sharp Play will continue from 1 PM to 5 PM
Dinner Break from 5 PM to 6 PM
Play will Start at 6 PM Sharp Play will continue from 6 PM to 8 PM
Play will End at 8 PM and a winner will be declared
30 minute turns will be used for guidance, we understand there are a lot of pieces to move and that questions will turn up, but given the format (every attempt being made to have 1 on 1 games going on simultaneously) turns should be able to be kept to near 30 or less minutes. The short answer: DON'T TAKE 1 HOUR TURNS. We are not looking to hurry people up, we are just looking to get the most out of our game.
You can shoot across tables when day breaks. Y can bombard across tables, same regarding night applies; if it is night on the back tables then your spotters cant see on the back tables.

>.^ So I finally kinda have Internet access. I would like to say that I will be there! though I cant stay past 10pm so I hope we can get the game going earlier rather then later? The plan is to be done by 8 pm and for German players to be there at 9am .Also O'Steve plans to have the tables set up tonight so baring kidnapping by Aliens or something else you should be able to leave well before 10pm. Oh yes could you bring my book on the Japanese army? Temis

Brad - Just when N'Steve assures us unconditionally that you won't be able to make it! Part of the German misinformation plan. The allies think you are stationed up in the Calais area awaiting the "real" invasion.
I think N'Steve had you penciled in for a 1000 point beach defense force.
Allies - O'Mike, Temis, N'Steve, Chris Germans - Will, Brad, Jeremy, Mars
N'Mike and Nick are more then welcome to join in as well - we would most likely pair you up with another player. Option is still there to open a fifth table and we could do that at the last minute on Sunday if it makes sense.

Certainly Temis. I'm very sorry to have kept it for so long. It was a very interesting read so I thank you 9am will be tough... I work 11pm to 7am both sat and sun. But we'll see. Ill stop in even if I cant make the game. If any extra players show up it might be best for me to just play a game on the side (so I can show up late hehe) Also I have forgotten a lot of the rules.... don't want to slow down a game that is lengthy enough to begin with.

So the Germans come out on top 4 objectives to 2 for the Allies with two contested. (Although Mike might argue that the score should be 4-3 with one contested as his British paras did hold an objective on Turn 6 which qualifies as a win in the Seize and Hold scenario.) "Monty" Temis' British invasion force methodically tore up Vintage Steve's German beach defenders and carried both objectives. His tanks were poised to advance to the support of the British paras. Mike's bloody paratroopers launched a daring glider coup-de-main and seized a small crossing over the Caen Canal (although Mars' German force staunchly held on to Pegasus Bridge, the main crossing). The paras hunkered down, awaiting Monty's arrival from the beach but Mars' light tank reserve managed to contest the crossing the paras were trying to hold onto. So much for the Allied successes. The Brits certainly did not accomplish all that might have been expected by Ike but they swept the beach and were poised to advance to the Caen Canal. Mars may have given the Germans the time needed to cobble together a defensive force to contest that crossing. On the American side, things did not go so well. Steve's landing force was pinned down on the beaches by concentrated and effective fire from Jeremy's defenders. Only late in the day were they able to begin to advance over the seawall and make small inroads into the minefields and barbed wire of the first German defensive line. The American paratroopers, obviously confused over the last minute disappearance of their beloved Lt. Col Poofy during the airdrop (stuck in a tree somewhere in Normandy??), mostly landed far from their objective and smack dab into the midst of Col. Shoemaker's Armored PanzerGrenedier Company. Taking heavy casualties from massed infantry and halftrack MG fire from behind the bocage, the most the US paras could do was to dig in and contest one objective. Time was running out for the paras and no help would be forthcoming from the beaches anytime soon. So, if you were Ike, what would your next move be? Is D-Day a failure and you recall your troops? Can you build on the success of the British landing and reinforce the American beach while their airborne troops dig in and await relief? Will took some pics which are available here www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.2296592617880.2135180.1341032694&l=acd98af38c&type=1Thanks to Temis, Mike, Mars, Will, Jeremy, and Steve for a great day of gaming. After all, what else is there to do on a sunny, 85 degree Sunday in August but to hunker down in the basement at TP and game??

Thanks for the game everybody, it was a lot of fun! It was great meeting you all.
I would argue that Mike's Paras held their objective too. The coup-de-main assault swept the objective and the Paras dug in. They were still there at turn 10 and Lord Lovat was miles away.
Steve, thanks again for setting up the tables, you did a great job!
