Playoffs? Are you kidding me? Playoffs?
That's right, playoffs! With last week's ending of the round robin phase, we now move into the playoff phase, wherein the top 4 finishers face off to determine the champion.
Playoff Phase
-At the end of the round robin phase, the four players with the highest number of points will be invited to the playoffs, which will be held at triple play on SATURDAY FEBRUARY 26th at 11AM
-Players are still bound to the lists they used in the round-robin phase. No changeups!
-Players will be seeded by the number of points they received in the round robin round (i.e. the first place finisher will be play the fourth place finisher, while the second and third place finishers will play each other).
-The winners of that seeded round will then advance to the championship game. The winner of this game wins the tourney and all the credit (save $10, which will go to the winner of the best sportsman prize)!
The following rules are in effect for the playoff games.
-Tactical Advantage: The higher seeded player gets to pick the mission for any playoff game. They may choose any mission from the main rulebook (though deployment will be rolled for normally) or a mission from the Battle Mission books that pertains to their army or the army of their opponent (example: in an IG vs Ork matchup, either an IG or an Ork mission could be chosen).
-Homefield: to further reward the higher seeded player, prior to announcing their mission selection they may select two pieces of terrain on the neutrally set up board and make them swap places. Wooded hills and the like count as only one piece of terrain.
-Overtime! Since these are single elimination games, there cannot be a tie. In the event that the game ends and the players are tied, the game will continue for ONE extra round to allow the players to force a victory. If the game is still tied after this extra round, the game will end and victory points will be used as a tiebreaker.
The playoff contenders are:
1st. Brad: 5-0-2
2nd. Brian: 5-1-1 (31 BPs)
3rd. Tony: 5-1-1 (16 BPs)
4th. Mark: 4-3
So the first round will look like this:
Brad (1) vs Mark (4)
Brian (2) vs Tony (3)
Feel free to drop by on the day of the playoffs to cheer on your favorite player, or even wish bad luck on those who defeated you in the round robin phase.
