I stopped into the store yesterday asking about an EDH scene, and you guys mentioned a league starting up in the new year. Are there any plans yet, or just ideas floating around?

Brad had mentioned it to me. He asked if I had any ideas how to set it up. I was thinking of setting something up along the lines of the Warhammer League.... There is a map with cities and other areas that are worth points. Each player has a home city where there armies are based. They give orders to move to other areas to capture. Depending on who moves where... battles occur and points are scored....most points win. That is the simple version. It needs to be worked out more.... how many armies (decks) per player? Point system? Can home cities be attacked? etc.... I would love to hear other ideas....I will talk with Brad again and maybe we could come up with some rules and guidelines. But we need other players input as well. It would be fun to start this in January after the holidays. So speak up! Rod

Yes, I was interested in putting together some kind of "organized" EDH thing. The guys that I have played with casually on Fridays would be interested I'm sure, but that is only another four or five people that would be able to play consistently I think. I would like to put together some variant games of EDH. Examples: Two-headed giant EDH. Emperor EDH. Other craziness that players desire/require.
Check back on the forums for details later, and if you can, check out Friday Nights at Triple Play for FNM events. Right now we are alternating drafts and Standard Constructed on Fridays, starting at 6:00. There is opportunity to play casual at these times as well. Hope to see you around.

Leagues that I have heard about would usually split players up into tables of 5-6 and have large games going at the same time. Points would be given out for various accomplishments, such as eliminating a player, doing the most damage in a single turn, winning the table, drawing the most cards, etc. That way people could score points and feel like they did well that night, even if they didn't win the table. Then the top 2-3 players at each table would all come together and play another game while the lower 2-3 at each table also played each other. Points would be kept track for several weeks (like a season or something) and the highest point total at the end of the period was the winner of the league for that go-around.
Just another way to look at it I suppose.

The Armada system is exactly what I was referring to.
In the meantime, while this is still in planning, when would be a good time to come in for some pick-up games? Is the store pretty much all FNM on Fridays, or would there be people around to get an EDH game going?

There are usually people around on Fridays to play EDH. I am there pretty much every Friday to run the store events and if I can I try to get a pickup game of EDH going at the same time. Come on in and lets get something going.
As for times on getting an EDH League going I am free to run it/play in it most nights we just need someone to pick a day.

Weekends would be better for me personally for the league. I work weeknights, and usually have to skip some work time just to be there for FNM.
On another note, we should probably remember to post some kind of notice or make an announcement for the league so people can start thinking about what general they might want to run, and start collecting cards for their decks. I don't know if it is too soon to start reserving "commanders" yet or not.

In my opinion I would say that for the league we use do not use a static general/commander for the deck. so i do not really see a good way to reserve a general/commander.

I agree that the generals should not be static for the entirety of the league. Lots of people have multiple decks, and I'm sure they would like a chance to play more than one of them at a time. I'd personally prefer to not have the league play on a weekend day, since I for one generally plan on doing things outside the geographic area on the weekend.
Anyway, I'll probably come by the store on Friday after work to see if anyone wants to get a game going.

Currently there is no new news on the EDH league. I can run it most days but Thursdays or Saturdays might be the best ones. Thursdays be cause apparently there is another Magic Tourny being setup for Tuesday nights and Saturdays because well its the weekend and most of the time I actually have time free then. If anyone has a preference to one of the two days lets try to get this going for late April early May.

I'll vote for Thursday nights. I'm already in the area after work on weeknights, and I'd prefer to not drive out ~30 min on the weekend if I can help it.

So no one has actually responded since Matt so I am going to assume that most people, other then brad, are ok with Thursday nights for the EDH league. If this is true then I would like to get the League going starting May 26th. I am still planning on using the Armada Games point system.
Do we want to do a nightly winner or a "season" winner? Also do we even want to do a prize payout?

I really like the armada points! Jeremy are you going to use this list exactly or pick and choose, toss out, add new, etc....? Thursdays are tough on a regular basis. But I think I would try to make this...it sounds fun. One other question....how long would the league run? Hope this works out and I can make this.... ;D Rod
