Hey everyone! We at Plymouth have decided that we need to end our semester with a big bang. So we came to the conclusion that the only possible way to make our bang big enough was to host a double tournament. Details!: -Saturday, May 14th, registration at 9 am, dice drop at 10 (we learned from last time ) -1500 points per player, making a 3000 point team. (No, you may not make a 1450 list and have your teammate make a 1550 point list.) -3 hour rounds, lunch after the first round -$5 buy in with prize money given to the top two teams -There will be proper spelling/grammar on our info sheets -The tourney will be in the two rooms that the 40k tournament at EconoCon were held in. -Shared force org with one caveat. Each player must bring an HQ and two troops, (leaving two troops, 3 elites, 3 heavies, and 3 fast left for the team to use). -It WON'T be random teams. -In the case of Space Wolves and Chaos Daemons, your HQ selection is cut in half. Ex: 2 HQ's instead of 4 for Space Wolves. Other things: We will be having our tournament in the same room we had it in last time. Bring two copies of your lists. We're trying to make this competitive, yet fun, so we're planning on having some serious fights with at least one silly scenario that doesn't have ridiculous victory conditions. -other details to follow if needed.

-There will be proper spelling/grammar on our info sheets Is this even possible!??! We're totally going to use the projector again. That worked out pretty well. Unless you guys prefer having print outs? And here's an idea I had, let me know what you guys think; we put everyone's name in a hat and draw teams. Sound like a fun idea or a hindrance?

Sounds like a fun idea because it's a hindrance. It'll make people build balanced lists instead of the traditional "I'll run 2 min troops and 1300 points of everything else, you run 6 troop choices."

This might be fun for a combat patrol tourney, but 9 hours might be a bit too much to ask two random players to work together without causing some problems.

Gimmicky teams are part of the fun of doing team games

You could randomly draw teams for each round. That way you only have three hours to alienate your teammate. It also would tend to even out the luck involved with the randomness. Nobody is stuck for three rounds with a partner who hasn't played in a year and is running an army who's Codex has been withdrawn. (Not that I am carrying any bitterness over that!!)
Depends upon whether you want to have people bring all comers lists or conspire together for gimmicky teams. Either would be fun.

Chances are people wont want to play with random teams, that might make it just turn into two 1 player games on the same board.

Okay. Good to know your thoughts on it. Random teams are out. I'll have some more logistical stuff posted a bit later today.

All right, new updates. First, the tourney will be in the two rooms that the 40k tournament at EconoCon was held in. A slight hindrance, but not too bad. Next, shared force org with one caveat. Each player must bring an HQ and two troops, (leaving two troops, 3 elites, 3 heavies, and 3 fast left for the team to use). It WON'T be random teams. Breath easy.
Sound good? Any other questions?
edit: Fixed the OP to include this info.

So each member can only take one hq Blasted Space Wolves... that does throw a wrench into things.. How have other team tourneys that shared a force org chart solve that problem?

As we found out in the first round at adepticon SW still got their 2 Hq per slot. The same was true for Daemon heralds. I think most team tourneys run it this way.
