one model armed with grenades in a unit does not give the whole unit grenades. On page 36 in the rule book it just says "models equipped with grenades don't suffer the penalty to their initiative..." so only the models in the unit with the grenades are the ones that benefit from them, and the models without grenades still swing at I1 when assaulting though cover.
There are however some items that do give the whole unit grenades like the phantasm grenade launcher in the DE codex.

I thought there was something a little goofy about an Independent Character handing out grenades to all his friends when he joins a unit.

Does a unit attacking typhus in a squad of joe CSM have all their bonus attacks removed? Typhus is an IC with defensive grenades.
Slightly different question but related. I know stealth now goes to the unit if one character has it if that is any kind of precedent. I am not so sure of the grenade issue.

I'd have to read up on defensive grenades, if it says the same thing where only models with it get the benefit then no, but I don't have a book on hand (at work)
