Hello Everybody,
The Rat Hoard came out of the Under-Empire a couple of weeks ago and quickly turned around after losing to the Wood Elves in a 6 turn Dawn Attack. Rats have a hard time chewing through bark it seems. I also suspect my high-quality Dwarven shields are in fact Goblin made!
So, today the Hoard decided to get revenge for their inferior equipment and clashed with the new Orcs & Goblin for Blood & Glory. Sadly, while there was much blood, in the end, there was little glory with the Hoard. They lost their fortitude at the start of turn 4 after losing a couple standards and the BSB. While the slaves did hold up well, they didn't kill much and their shields have proven to be definitely Goblin made. The Rat Ogres did exceptionally well though. The Grey Seer did cast the dreaded 13th, but got the feedback scroll for his effort and died. Chuck got the Foot of Gork spell off and killed more than a dozen Clanrats. He got to stomp twice and rolled a 1 for the second stomp. This allowed me to place foot where I choose.
Al in all, the biggest thing I struggle with is where to put my casters to protect them. Chuck recommended I deploy them more centrally next time. Maybe I'll try a small bunker of slaves and maybe I'll put the BSB there as well. I think I might also switch the shields for spears. An extra rank of attacks might help peel away a few more models.
I am going to have to make some notes for future games. I forgot to use the BSB's Banner of the Under-Empire (2D6 S2 hits at the start of every CC), the Doomrocket, Pipes of Piebald (LD test to charge unit), and both Warp-Muskets on the Engineers (I even had upgraded optics on one).
One of these days I also need to complete the trip to Hell Pit and get a Hell Pit Abomination. I really could use some extra punch.
All-in-all, I have really enjoyed the epic feel of battle with Skaven. I have a hard time squeezing into the deployment zone, but once things get into battle there is fighting from one end of the table to another.
Jeff
