Storm Clan has slowly been biding their time and building their strength. Warlord Quette has gotten bold (for a Skaven) and is ready to emerge from the Under-Empire to ravage the land of the world above...
Does anyone want to play a friendly 2000 point Pitched Battle (keeping it simple) 8th Ed Warhammer game this Thursday, January 27? I work until 3:30pm and can be at the store shortly there after. This will be my first game at this point level with my newly (mostly painted) Skaven army. I have over 230 models all magnetized and on custom movement trays.

Brian, Thanks again for the game today. I'm amazed at how much my army fills the deployment zone. I really thought I'd have more room to move around. I was especially hoping to get my Giant Rat units marching up the side. Maybe I'll try that next time. Even if they just slow down some units they might be worth it.
I checked on a couple of things. The Warpfire thrower DOES jump and not just shoot in a straight line. Page 114, "this is where the burst of flames land".
For the mortar, I found where the BS skill comes into play. The BS skill is used after a direct hit when firing indirectly. Page 115, "how much less depends greatly on the skill of the crew."
Also, I was reading about the multiple shots. Page 73, -1 penalty is correct. Also, it says "all models in the unit must fire single or multiple shots". Does my second rank also get two shots? I thought they only got one since they are behind, but I don't see anywhere that says otherwise.
Also, I can't find any reference to horde formations getting an extra rank for shooting. I can only find it close combat.
Overall, I'm don't think I made too many mistakes nor slowed the game down too much. My units did pretty much what I had hoped and I even got to use the "life is cheap" rule.
Anything you suggest I do different next time? What about putting a unit in the building? Unless they shoot, what would I gain?

Good game Jeff. You had my chaos in a tough postion (that being very wounded by turn 3).
Putting the unit in the building would have gotten you more shots but I would have booted those slaves out pretty easy.
I have to check on the double tapping from the second row. Unless it says you can't, go for it.
I think you played very well Jeff. Letting me come to you was the correct strategy. I am slow and it gives you an opportunity to set up. I think those giant rats could have really messed with those maruaders though. Their job is to redirect big mean units and then die;)
Skaven are so solid! Love the paint job too!

One thought I had later was using the building to get behind you. I had one unit of Clanrats pinned with no charge option (the one Robert pointed out that you couldn't charge). What if I put them in the building and then exited on the other side? Would I be able to get a rear charge? Can I enter and exit a building in the same turn?
One thing I'm still on the fence about is shields for slaves. I'll have to play with it more, but I don't know that it saved very many yesterday. If I went spears instead, I would have had 5 more attacks (not that they were getting past your armour & ward saves anyway).
Next time I will move the weapon teams up next to the unit instead of behind so I don't have LOS issues.
I just got the bits to convert some Clanrats to Gutter Runners. I may drop Skweel, split the Rat Ogres up, and add some Gutter Runners.
