Welcome to the new year everyone! This is looking to be a great year and I am thankful that i have met all of you (great way to bring in the end and start the new).
I had a proposal for this friday or at least a question of sorts. I would like to get more games in in the short time that we do have. (as much as larger games are so much fun). I wanted to know if we could do the trenches game with less points say 800 or 1000? i would love to actually finish a game lol, i hate being left wondering what was going to happen on turn 3 or turn 4.
Also maybe we could chat some more on friday about doing campaigns and what not. or taking a whole day to do a tournament?
any other thoughts everyone?

I also hate having to pick up a game after 3or 4 turns just when it seems that the game is r starting to get really interesting. Smaller battles are one way to do that. Although in the past with most scenarios 1500 points has proved to make a small enough battle that it can usually finished in one night. Having said that I am not sure that for Trench fight making a smaller army fight the battle is going to be a good idea. Jeremy has proved himself to be the Vauban of FOW. I am not sure that his defense can be cracked. Playing with less points also is a burden for the attacker. Winning Trench fight against a com potent defender requires the extras in the game things like Artillery, Aircraft,AOP, recon, and pioneers for the attacker. The Defender? he could probably get by with a Luftwaffe field company if he had to( component trained). The smaller the number of points you have the larger the percentage of the force that is tied up with the combat platoons. I think that the solution for Trench fight is to play a larger battle with more time. Say on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon

How about declaring January as 1000 Point Month. Each create a 1000 point force and play the same force every week in January. We can maximize our playing time if everyone has his force planned ahead of time. So, if we all use the same force every week for the month we should all be prepared to get to the store and play. We will try to avoid "blue on blue" but if we end up with a few German vs. German battles, er training exercised, so what.
We can play a fixed scenario from the rulebook each week. Start with Scenario 1 this week, Scenario 2 next week, then 3, then 4.
This would also give us some time to discuss future plans since we are not prepping our army and deciding what scenario to play.
Suggestion:
January - 1000 point month February - Trench fight month. Do some practice games using entrenchments so we get familiar with how they work. Do a weekend day St. Valentine's Day massacre type scenario late in the month with an assault on a fortified position. March and April - On To Berlin campaign. May and June - D Day. Practice games to get familiar with airborne drops, beach fights and then a weekend day megabattle of D-Day in June or a series of smaller games with the airdrops and beach landings. July and August - North Africa

I second that motion. That will save allot of hair pulling and stress what to play every week. I just have to come up with a force that can deal with a tank company or Infantry company in one force. Will we still be playing with 1 combat company?

Sounds good to me. I like it.
and just to confirm.... 1000 pts means a company HQ with one combat platoon and then whatever else to make up the rest of the points so long as it is legal? and that is using any late war book? and we are sticking to the list for each friday this month or can we make substitutions so long as we come ready with the 1000 points to play with on friday?
The St V Day massacre would be a 2500 or 3000 point game (IE Big game) or we could do each side has the same # of players and each player plays 1000 or 1500 points to make sure we can keep it within a reasonable time.
In either case I shall be ready with a 1000 point force for this month. Sounds good and I will see you all there.

I would suggest only one combat platoon required (but you could take more). I would suggest the same list for the month just from the point of view of choosing a list and getting used to playing it in different scenarios and against different opposing forces. Use any company from any late war book.
For StVD, it might be good to choose sides in advance so players can coordinate on their lists. Keeping the point totals in the 1500 area might be best so that we can try to get in more than three or four turns. Maybe we should also relax the two combat platoons per company rule here too. Perhaps a total of 4 combat platoons required if there are 3 companies on a side. I also like adding a bit of randomness to things so I will look to see if any of the random event card decks I put together in the past might apply to this. Each player (or side) picks one card per turn. Random events are not (hopefully) complete game changers but things like granting one reroll, rallying one otherwise destroyed stand, etc.

So I went ahead and got army builder. It has been a huge help!!! Not that i doubted anyones advice. I was able to come up with 4 armies that should work 2 tank companies and 2 armored rifle companies. I should only have to proxy some armored 155's (though legally i have to field 105's before hand and i dont have any) and sgt pool. I would rather play a legal list because I dont think it is fair for me to be the exception at this point. (thank you all for allowing me some leeway up to this point, its really nice to have put some ground under my feet). an I had couple addition thoughts about St VD. I was reading Das Book and on pages 66 to 75 they cover "total war," which i thought might be good for us to use for the game. it covers allied teams, fighting to the last man, allied spotters (which was a point of discussion at tanks giving) and a few other good ones. Then we could schore points using the victory points system we used for tanks giving.
Any other thoughts?

An FYI (or maybe a warning). Some of us have caught the American Civil War bug and may be trying out the Regimental Fire and Fury rules Friday in addition to FOW.
