Hello Everybody, Alot of people have asked me about my progress with my Skaven Army. Well, I have about 100 Skavenslaves painted, 40 Clanrats, 10 Packmasters, 6 Rat Ogres, 1 Poison Wind Mortar, & 1 Warlord on a warlitter. I'm very pleased with the Warlord... I used a 40mm base with 4 Clanrats and High Elf Chariot chassis. There's enough room for a regular 20mm model to stand. here's a picture: I'm planning on doing a conversion warlord where I chop off the halberd and cleaver and replace them with a High Elf sword and shield. To the victor goes the spoils. After the holidays I will be painting up another Island of Blood Skaven set, 25 Giant Rats, and maybe some Clanrats converted to Gutter Runners. I'm hoping to have a 2000pt list (mostly painted) for January. Jeff

I love it! Keep painting. I would love to throw down in January. Maybe your warlord will be the inspiration I need to get that WFB itch again;)

Thanks for the great comments everyone. I've enjoyed seeing the army come to life. Painting 100 Skavenslaves is a bit of a grind, but it's nice to look back at a 50 model unit when it's all done. I've been trying to pace myself and paint 5 models per night or so. I can pretty quickly clip, glue, prime, and base my Clanrats. It's the detail painting that goes slow. I'm sure I'm "preaching to the choir" here.
I'm thinking of doing another warlitter with a Bretonnian shield next. They have nice big flat shields that should make a good platform.
Chaos has some great looking shield, but I don't think they are quite big enough for a warlitter.
I like the theme of using things from the scavenge pile. The Skaven rulebook even has a section to pick items from called the "scavenge pile".

Take another look at the chaos shields, in particular the ones for the chaos knights. I am pretty sure they are at least as big as bretonnia, and are much more detailed... Everything looks good! I applaud your speed at painting I think next week is going to be marathon modeling and painted for me. I have 10 skellies and I think some zombies to assemble from my last box of VC, and I just got another battalion + 30 wights and a box of ghouls... Oh, and 9 black knights to convert from Bretonnia... So far I have two models painted out of the 150 or so I have assembled...

I've looked at the Chaos shields before. They do look way more gothic and not so utilitarian. Are they as wide though? I'd need them about 30mm wide to hold a 20mm base (unless I just glued the Warlord straight to it).
How many points are you shooting for with VC? 150+ models sounds like alot. How cheap are ghouls, wights, and zombies?
Do you have a Bretonnian army or did you buy the models specifically to convert?
For my 2000 point list, I think I'll have around 230 models. Almost 100 of those models are 3pt Skavenslaves though (2pt Skavenslave and 1 point for sling & shield). Almost 90 are Clanrats. I just finished 32 Giant Rats and am working on my last two Rate Ogres.

With what I have now I should be able to field an army around 3500-4000 points. Pretty sure I will have somewhere around 300+ models. around 80 are 4 pt zombies, most of the remainder of normal troops are 8-9pts. What really gets me is my vampire lord. To make him good it cost around 450 pts (on foot!), and you really can't skimp on him because if he dies my army starts crumbling to bits. To make up for that I do have Wight kings for heroes though, which are only 75pts and have stat lines more akin to lords than heroes, and automatically come with magic weapons w/ killing blow. In a 2000pt game, I usually have around 1000pts as heroes/lord.
As for the Bretonnia, I was going to start them but decided not to because of a lack of variation. I had already bought a box of knights with the army book, so when I made my first black knight conversion I bought another box. I think I can make 15 of them, not sure though. They will be a fun unit because I am going to paint them with unique heraldry and colors, but more evil than Bretonnia...

Not sure if they have the look you want. Most of them are wood with bones and random metal bitz stuck on
