So I am guessing this has been asked and answered but I can't find a solid answer any where so I am gonna ask it. What do detachment points count towards? I have seen different posts saying they do count towards the core selection and other that don't. Here is my thought process on it.
When I look at the rules (8th ed. rule book), it says any points spent in the core selection count towards your core percentage and there is nothing else in that book or the FAQs that state that detachments are treated any different (as far I can tell). The FAQs says that "Troop Type-Note that older versions of our army books do not list the Troop Type for each model. If this is the case with your army book, then you can find the model's Troop Type in the reference section at the back of the Warhammer rulebook" "Page 71 – Army List entry-Ignore this page and use the rules for 'Choosing Your Army' in the Warhammer rulebook." this is telling me that points are decided on the type of troop the models is and for detachments thats core; its also telling me that you should ignore the army book (because its out of date) and use the rules in the main rule book. Since the main rule doesn't say anything about detachments I would assume the fact that a unit is a detachment doesn't change that it falls into the core selection.
i just don't buy the floating points idea. without clarification in the FAQs, i think the default should be to the 8th ed rule book in which they would be counted as troops. anyway thats my thought process on this and again i am looking for input on this
