Certain cards, as either an open or a reaction, give bonuses or penalties to force. This is not done by adding a token; the card just says to give the penalty or bonus.
I cannot find a rules reference to say that those go away at any particular point. How are those handled, and how long do those bonuses/penalties remain?
The cards do not indicate any end of the bonus, so they do not say the bonus goes away at the end of the battle or the turn or anything similar.

rules.l5r.com/CE_Effects#Ongoing_effects"Ongoing effects may be thought of as “virtual” effects because they are not officially recorded with a physical game element; for example, giving stat bonuses or penalties, granting keywords, or putting a condition on a card such as “may not assign.” Unlike continuous effects, ongoing effects start and end at definite times stated by the effect itself and do not end if the card they came from leaves play. Ongoing effects last until the end of the turn in which they were applied unless otherwise indicated. Example: “permanent” or “until” a certain game time are phrases that override the default "end of turn" duration. " Mark
