I'm going to re-emphasize that I want printed army lists for every person! I know most of you guys have Army Builder, so there's no excuse for handing me a crumpled piece of notebook paper with chickenscratch on it. Just to be clear though, you're not requiring Army Builder-made lists for everyone - just lists printed off a computer. Have I got that right? im getting to the point that i wish tournaments required you to turn in your army list a week before, so you didnt know who you would be facing, or what the possible scenarios are going to be. forces you to design a decent all comers army list that can deal with the winds of change. I don't think that's really a problem. In my experience, those who build their armies to counter another specific army never end up facing them. For example, I remember when Ethan and I came down to our first tournament at 3play. All we had heard about in the weeks leading up to the tourney were how good Tom and Ben's ork team had done the previous year. So we built our combined eldar/IG strikeforce to pwn orks (flamers, hellhounds and various other anti-horde/light vehicle stuff), and surprise surprise, we didn't face orks all day. We also ended up going 1 and 2. Basically, the pairing system is such that taking a take-all-comers list is really the smartest thing to do anyway. Also, I don't think we know the missions yet do we?

Hrm. Given that I don't have access to a pc to print out my army list, and thus do it all on paper by hand, does this mean I can't participate?

If you ABSOLUTELY DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO A COMPUTER in order to whip up an army list (Army Builder or Notepad...doesnt matter), then I will accept a neat, comprehensive (ie point values and wargear) army list that is hand-written.
Or you could just go to the library and use one for free!

I've gone to tournys before with mearly numbers on a page. Granted, they were organized by unit, Class (HQ, Elite, Troop), and had all the points listed for all the upgrades. Then, written beside them "MeltaVets" or "Vendetta" or "QuadMeltaCommand". It made sense, when you looked at the numbers on the page, what was what, and what the army had. The army might have been thought out days before, but I just never put the final polish on it with a builder, or spreadsheet. Just numbers in a book, with quick discriptive notes next to them. This said, I fully support this "Bring a well written list, and write it BEFORE you show up and view the opponents." To ask to see the opponent's list, and be handed a skrunched up wad of computer paper with numbers written on it, knowing that it was written just moments before, after everyone arrived, upstairs next to the register "from memory" is enough to make my eyebrows raise. Yeah, I just might have to break out a spreadsheet program, and type a bunch of words. Oh the horror. That extra time spent will just make things go a little bit smoother. Plus, I might just figure out how to work Excel. I still might think my previous lists were okay and clear, even if they didn't have all the stats for every model. The bar has to be raised to some level. Unit name, point values, and wargear isn't asking for all that much.
Veteran Squad 3 Meltaguns, Chimera 70+10+10+10+55=155
Not that difficult at all. Might have the list done in Notepad tonight.
Cheers, -Conrad

And conrad, how many of each fig in the unit. so for example i have a boyz mob of 29 boyz, and 1 nob, the nob has boss pole and Klaw thats 220 points. i should probably make it easy on the tourney judge by also including the points for the various upgrades in that as well.
make it all clear for your opponent and the judge.
and im sure some one can print out your list if you ask and send them the army list.

and droo, at the ard boyz fantasy semis, it really looked like some players adjusted the list they ran based upon the armies they saw when they walked in as they had a good amount of time sitting in before the organizer got going.

Wow, that is really... low. I hope it backfired on them. I guess enforcing printed lists would be a way around those shenanigans. That is, unless they had a a laptop and time to run to Staples.

I didn't think about unit size Rob... I suppose using Veteran Squads as an example is a BAD example of that. They come in one size, and one size only, 10-man. Then again, this is very common in most of my guard units. They come in one size only. Yet doesn't that fit guard mentality? One-size-defeats-all. BIG.

I'll see if I can get my List printed before Saturday.
Does anyone have an issue If I use a some Pressure mold scarabs made from clay?
I molded them from the real GW Scarabs. The only real difference is the occasional slightly smaller Scarab, or one with a detail squished a hair, or the ripple of a finger print on its back. With the wife and two kids its hard to justify buying over 90 of these suckers for a $1.50 a pop when I can buy $5 in clay and make the mold and the scarabs with it. Still got about 1/2 the Box O'Clay too... lol

Awesome tournament! I enjoyed all three of my matches. My tie with Droofus's orks was just awesome. Thanks Tony for taking one for the team. I ended up 1-1-1. Not bad for my first game/tournament with my Word Bearers.

Not bad for my first game/tournament with my Word Bearers. That was my best game of 40k in a long long time. You should feel very good about playing at such a high level (in my humble, non-biased opinion ) with a new army.
