These forums don't seem that active, but I am wondering if there is anything happening for the launch of Scars of Mirrodin? Does Triple Play ever hold drafts for Magic? It looks like they do more LotFR stuff?
I just got back into Magic this summer and am looking for a place to play near Hanover.
Thanks.

I'm interested in playing Magic drafts too, but my preference is to redraft the rares at the end as this encourages people to focus on building decks and not worry about hording rares. It also helps spread good cards around (in a six-player draft for example, the player finishing last gets no worse than the sixth best card). There are a couple of the other L5R players from Londonderry that could also be tempted along for such a draft.
As for prerelease and launch events, if they work the same way they do in the UK, they require a certain level of consistent organised play at a venue before being awarded.

We have a fairly big group that plays Magic every Friday here at Triple Play. They draft as often as they can, as long as they have 8 people to do so. My advice is to come down on a Friday around 6pm and see what's going on!

Just to clarify though Tony: those guys don't redraft rares, right? They just basically keep whatever they pull?
Is there any store-provided prize support? Do you guys get the FNM foils, for example?

Friday night Magic at triple play isnt Friday Night Magic, unfortunately. We're trying to work something out, I'm not sure on the details.
I think there are maybe store credit prizes or something? If one of the Magic players could chime in, they'd know more than I.

There won't be any Scars of Mirrodin in for the pre-release date of Oct 1st. However, Triple Play will be sure to get a bunch of SoM for the actual release, and several people will likely be on hand to do a draft. Note that we don't have sanctioned tournaments going right now, but these are in the works I believe.

Who coordinates/ runs Magic for the store, please? I've seen and heard several vague references, but it'd be good to get an actual name to chat to about things.

I enjoy drafting Magic. It is the only tournament format I still play. I hope Triple Play can get FNM up and running officially. I know alot of the guys like to play EDH, but an official FNM is great for the store. I might even make it up for a draft or two a month!

Definitely seconded on the draft possibility, Rod. In fact, I'll speak to the guys from Londonderry and see if they'd be up for it at some point - would you be interested in joining in, assuming we redrafted the rares afterwards?

I would be ineterested Mark. I have no problem redrafting rares either. I have done that a time or two in my day. It works quite well. I would love to see sanctioned tournaments at the store. It seems there is a good Magic community there. All they need is some one to take the time to organize it. It could start with FNM. I unfortunatley do not have the time. But I would certainly support FNM on a semi regular basis.
