Empire at War release event Saturday Oct 2nd

Triple Play will be hosting a Legend of the Five Rings CCG Empire at War release event on Saturday October 2nd. This is a sealed deck tournament, and the entry fee of $25 covers a starter deck and three boosters. The three clans featured are Dragon, Scorpion, and Unicorn. We will allow players to choose their starter deck while stocks permit.

Everybody that takes part will receive a special promo card, an experienced version of the Ronin personality Kuronada! Extra promo cards will also be given out to all participants, and there will be an extra prize for the highest finishing player taking part in their first tournament. There will also be store credit awarded based upon attendance.

The tournament begins at 12.00 noon, and should be finished no later than around 6pm. If anyone has any questions, please email me at [e-mail], or contact the store and ask for Sean. We look forward to seeing you there!

Sorry for the delay in reporting the results! Due to a number of reasons (not least of which was a car breakdown scuppering the journey of our intrepid friends from Connecticut!), we only had six players for the release event, and one of those had to leave just after the start of the first round. Still, we turned this into a fun day of L5R action by playing round-robin and cutting to a final two. After the round-robin, the standings were as follows:

T-2nd Brad Blitstein (Unicorn) 3-2
T-2nd Chris Foot (Scorpion) 3-2
T-2nd Mike Valliere (Unicorn) 3-2
5th Geoff Prugh (Unicorn) 1-4
6th Sean Wolfe (Dragon) 0-5

Of course, the fact we played round robin meant the tiebreakers between Brad, Chris and Mike were identical. To make mattes more complicated, Chris won his head-to-head matchup with Brad, who beat Mike, who beat Chris, giving us a true tie for 2nd. The only way to break that tie was with a dice roll, and Chris was victorious, with Mike winning a second dice roll for top Unicorn. In the final, Chris couldn't break through the Dragon defenses early on, and could only take one province before I crossed forty honour. The final was very relaxed as we'd both already won the top of clan prizes for our respective clans and agreed to split the prize support evenly anyway!

Everyone who attended received a Kuronada promotional card, and more promo cards were handed out as extra participation cards. Store credit was awarded for first and second. Thank you to everyone who attended!
