Droofus, I'm going to have to go for a little from column A and a little from column B. Poofy was 3rd, and his victory over me in the second round left me in 7th. But, I got a draw against daemons during a game in which I fell of a stool.

First round I played skaven(mr. Crane) after he killed a bunch of his own stuff I got a minor win because y stupid crossbowmen broke and never rallied, making the game end a couple turns early. Result Minor + 2
Secound round I played tomb kings(Devin)- my only unit to start off the board was the cold ones. His was his tomb guard with koleta(sp?). I was able to blitz across the board and get turn two charges with almost nothing. Result - Massacre + 5.
Round three- I went into this round in secound place, 2 points behind the leader(my opponent). I played against high elves with surprise surprise teclis and two units of swordmasters. After a three turn cluster QUEEN-MOTHER OF DIRTY WORDS in th middle involving a hydra, my dragon lord, the cold ones, the Phoenix guard, and white lions, my lord broke at the exact right time with one wound Left and got away from the high elves. The corsairs killed a unit of swordmasters, the bsb, teclis, and two units of spearmen. My shooty assassin, crossbowmen, shooty master, and dark riders took out a great eagle, and a unit of swordmasters, but most importantly locked down one flank preventing teclis from escaping the corsairs. Result- Minor win+ 3. I had 2097 left to his 1200.
I ended up taking THIRD place!!!!

I had fun but my list did not perform. I think my misfire die was planted by a rival warlord!
Game one was versus poofys dark elves. I blew up alot of my own stuff and the hydras did what they do. Minor loss
Game two versus a daemons led by the great unclean one. I got massacred. Plague backfired and took out almost 40 clanrats. I blew up my WLP cannons again with the the bell. I dumped a bunch of wounds on the GUO bit couldnt do it. The plague wind spell ran through a bunch of rat hordes too.
Game three versus chuck's slann. I came out like a lion and then got skinned. I got off a 13rth and damaged the temple guard but they recovered well with the Lore of life. CHuck just had a really good magic phase. Passed on a miscast that killed half my unit of PM. Dwellered me. It was brutal. I got massacred again.
The big winner was the hell pit abomination and gutter runners. The big losers were warp lightning cannons, the bell, and warp fire throwers.

Congrats Poofy! That's pretty hilarious that you ran into that HE army (which sounds oddly familiar). Sounds like you need to promote those corsairs. They killed freaking teclis! What lore did the HE player take?
Seems like you guys played each other a lot. What was the turnout and army spread like?

I think there were 9 tables. I was surprised to pull poofy first round but we I qualified at a different store. It was fine though. There were mostly daemons and dark elves, 1 dwarf, 1 lizzie, 1 or 2 HE, 1 beastmen, 1 T Kings and 2 skaven.

Teclis had lore of shadow. Which really helpe him. Between hexing the corsiars which kept them from running rampant, and putting akhams mind eraser on the spearmen(which killed the dragon) it made it hard to do anything. The master with the orge blade is who killed teclis!
The turnout was 14 players 4 Dark Elves 3 Daemons 2 Skaven 1 Lizardmen 1 Dwarf 1 Beastmen 1 High Elf 1 Tomb Kings

His round three opponent was a guythat he came to the ard boyz with, who was playing an amazing daemon army and he was a good player. The only way either one of them could win is if the dark elf player could get a massacre + all 5 bonus points against the daemon player. Woah and behold the dark elf player gets a massacre because the daemon player made a few "mistakes" like the skull taker being all alone when he was perfectly fine in a unit of plague bearers with a nurgle hearlad in every other game. But meh it takes all kinds to play.

This is why the TOs should always try and match people up with someone other than who they traveled with.
But I guess when you get down to the final round, it doesnt matter.
So does top 3 get to go to finals? What was the 3rd place prize?

My first game was against the Demon player that tied for 3rd last year at Chicago, and that Poofy suspected of tossing the final game to his friend.
His army was Fateweaver, Skulltaker, the blue scribes, 3 heralds( Slannesh, nurgle, tzeentch), furies, khorne dogs, 3 units of 6 flammers, a unit of slannesh demons, a unit of nurgle demons, and a unit of horrors.
basically he got the first turn, and between fateweaver and the flammers began to dismantle my army. I had the choice of minimizing my losses pulling back and going for the minor loss or trying to turn the tables, i made the wrong choice. well actually it was the second bad choice, i should have gone all out on the attack and charged accross the table from the start. Instead i hanged back early then charged forward.
Fateweaver basically just owned the magic phase, i was barely able to get any spells off, and he was able to use glean magic to cast my own spells ( though if i had known how glean read, i think he used it to get the powered up version of dwellers off against one of my saurus units, when it only allows the lowest level of a spell to be cast, he didnt have the unit he hit with it in range.)
the other really important element is that the magic die split, between how many power and dispell dice, pretty much went his way in every single magic phase. ( so he would roll 4 4 and i would roll a 6 2 if the result was 8 power dice). This is one of the areas where luck can really dominate a game in 8th, same result but drastically different consequences.
i ended up with a major loss with some bonus points.
second game was against dwarves, in this one i started well, got into combat, and the combat dice just bit . for example my Saurus lord rolled 5 ones when i charged with his unit, and the saurus did barely any better. I also forgot the steggies thunderstomp. and a hex that reduced his leadership by 1. just remembering the hex would have been enough because he just made his reroll. just an example of how that game went. i pretty much made the right choices, but between a memory lapse, and some rotten dice he ended up with a major win. The whole combat in the middle of the board would have gone my way even with very bad combat luck, if i had just not forgotten 2 things. very pissed at my self over this game, its one i should have at least a major victory out of and probably a massacare.
The third game was against Brian, he started out very well, cut the temple guard in half with that d**n 13 spell and my unit of saurus spears nearly in half with a one use rocket. ( i had bought new dice after the first 2 die rolls of this game and the idea of average luck returned ). after that i clawed my way back, and one exceptional magic phase managed to turn the game back my way, i handed off a miscast to him, and got dwellers off. some further good luck and the game ended with going my way with the rats massacred.
then i took a wrong turn and added 45 minutes to the drive back home, bahhhh just really wasnt my day.

and i just saw that there was a final modification of the first scenario a day before the event.
you cant get a draw in the first scenario anymore. it was if you get less than a 1000 VP more than you get a minor victory. because of the possibility that some one would auto end the game from the break points.
its why the tourney organizers for Ard boyz really need to, and are suppose to check for modifications right up to the last moment.
