Charity L5R tournament Saturday Sept 11th

Triple Play will be hosting a special charity Legend of the Five Rings CCG tournament on Saturday, September 11th. To commemorate the date, all entry fees will be donated to the Tuesday's Children charity, and more specifically their Project Common Bonds program, set up to offer aid and advice to the victims of terror and violence worldwide. In addition to the tournament, we also hope to offer a raffle and box of greed, again with all proceeds going to Project Common Bonds. We are waiting to hear back from AEG regarding their possible support of this event.

The format for the tournament is Celestial Edition, with cards from Glory of the Empire up to The Plague War legal, including any promos printed during that time. The entry fee is $5, although any larger donations will be gratefully accepted. Store credit will be offered . Promo cards will also be given out to all participants, and there will be an extra prize for the highest finishing player taking part in their first tournament.

Received Troy's donations today. There's a fantastic signed Shimekiri print, and an amazing one of a kind pencil treatment of Daigotsu Gahseng, featuring artwork not used on the card! We'll be raffling off both of these great pieces of art after the tournament on Saturday.

We will be raffling off several items at the end of the tournament on Saturday, with all proceeds going to the Tuesday's Children charity. For every $10 worth of raffle tickets sold, we will add another item. Any unused items will be raffled off at a later date.

On Saturday September 11th, Triple Play in West Lebanon, New Hampshire, held a special charity Legend of the Five Rings CCG tournament, with all funds raised being donated to Project Common Bonds, a program ran by the Tuesday's Children charity. Prizes and support were offered by Alderac Entertainment Group, the creators of L5R, Troy Graham, a superbly talented artist whose art appears on L5R cards, and Roku-Mart, one of the most respected web stores noted for their support of L5R.

The player base at Triple Play is relatively new and small, but growing steadily. A number of players from outside the area and local players were unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts, but we still had a good turnout of eight players - six local players, and two players who made the trip down from Burlington. The entry fee was $5, and all money collected as entry fees was graciously donated by Triple Play to the charity collection.

We ran a four round tournament cutting to a top two final, and also had two extra events, thanks to the support offered by the above companies and individuals. Firstly, we had a 'Box of Greed', full of rares and promos (a large percentage of these cards were provided by AEG and Roku-Mart), which players could randomly select from at the bargain price of $1 a pick. Secondly, we raffled off several items, with tickets available for $2 each or 3 for $5. The items available including clan foil packs provided by AEG, a print and an exclusive piece of original art from Troy Graham, and a Drew Baker Daigotsu play mat.

Despite the relatively small gathering, well over $100 was raised by these events, and Triple Play has added to this to make a final donation of $200. We're delighted with this amount, and would like to thank everyone who supported the event through donations of time, money and product.

As for the tournament itself, the final standings after four rounds of Swiss were as follows:

In the final, Dan overcame his earlier loss and beat my Spider deck, claiming store credit and promo cards for his victory. Thanks to AEG's generosity, everybody left with at least 10 promo cards, and Will earned an extra prize for being the highest placed (and only) new player at the event.

The next few weeks see plenty of L5R action at Triple Play. Our next midweek gathering is Wednesday September 22nd, and will be an Empire at War booster draft if product arrives in time. There will be an Empire at War Release Event on Saturday October 2nd - this will be a sealed deck tournament, with new starter decks for Dragon, Scorpion and Unicorn. Our next monthly tournament will be on Saturday October 9th, and WILL be Empire at War Legal: this gives any players attending the Obsidian Championship at Feeding Hills a chance to practice within the new environment.
