Hey guys,
We brought it up the other day.
Who would be interested in doing a D-Day Mega Game?
I put one together a few years ago. We could do one similar. I want to work with will in creating a game that everyone who is currently associated with our group would enjoy playing in.
The more people the more we can have going on.
I am proposing to do a saturday in may.
Something different to do. Have fun. Make a day of it.
Thoughts?

I would love to do a large D-day themed game. Last year, I setup a night game for the group and 4 of us came out for a D-day themed game, we were actually able to play close to the anniversary date. Between Will and I we have a vast amount of terrain, including buildings, such as churches, and bocage to setup a truly historically accurate D-day game. Perhaps if we were able to play for the day, we could do beach landings on the first round, then go onto a campaign further inland using bocage and the like, and if we had time we could possibly do a 3rd round which perhaps included a battle for a town such as Villers-Bocage. That would truly give us an all around D-day game experience, even though heavy fighting for towns basically occurred well after the landings, paratroop drops notwithstanding.

Okay, I will look at the schedule this month and lock down a main weekend with an alternate.
I will keep everyone updated.
We will need at least 4 players. However if we can get the entire club in on it we could make a big day of it. I may even be able to get some of my other friends that play in on it.

I am setting the following as a proposal, all tentative.
Date: Saturday 17 May 2014 Location: Triple Play
Arrival Time: 930 Start time: 1030(players begin taking turns setting troops according to the scenario) Lunch Break: 1330 Resume Play: 1430 Dinner Break: 1730 (order out pizza and continue play) Resume Play: 1800 End Play: 2000
General rules: 1) Each side only gets 20 minutes for a turn, use an egg timer that rings for each.
I do understand that this would mean a late night. It totals 8 hours of play. I feel this is reasonable considering the size of the game. This time frame would allow us to reach a definable ending.
I would make the trip over Friday night to get the game boards set up.
Thoughts so far? Who else wants to play? Do you think we can actually get the entire group to buy in on one mega game?
Proposal for scenario to follow.

Unfortunately, Triple Play will be out of business at the end of this month. So, we will have to find a different venue to play in. However I will still keep that date set aside and hope we'll be able to play at another location.

Hello Generals,
I have amassed 18 feet of battlefront hedgerows for our D Day game. I will start work on a Foam board beach cliffs over looking the beaches of Normandy. That will be a fun project for me.
I will use my American Paratroopers to drop behind the lines. I think Young Steve will be storming the Beaches. I am thinking that Mayo guy will be manning the cliffs. So who is on board and what positions will you be taking in this game?

1st question is where are going to run the event 2nd question is what is a solid date (I propose the weekend of may 17th) 3rd who wants to play
so far:
New steve (me): US Beach Invasion Will: US Paratroops
Last time we did this we had eight players with four boards.
Will what do you suggest? can we get eight players together in one place.
Will I like your idea for building a board. I can't wait to see what you come up with. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP IN ADVANCE!
Lets take a look at the D-Day mega game that was highlighted in the WGI issue a couple of years ago. I will give you the issue date and number when I get home. I think we could use that as a starting point or recreate the whole thing maybe.
Everyones help is welcome. I think we can make a pretty solid event out of this!

I hate to say May 17th is the weekend of Huzzah 2014 in Maine. I have attended for two years in a row. Myself and Jeff Mayo attended last year. This is on our radar again this year. So that date is bad.

I will most likely get permission to use the American Legion post 22 in Lebanon. I am a member, as well as my son. I am sure I can secure this venue.

Temis and I both have the D-day play mat that Battlefront released last year. So, those could be combined to also create quite a beach front to fight over.

Howdy All,
Just wanted everyone to know that I am still working on this. I think the Third weekend in may is looking the best. I will send out an email as soon as I confirm it.
I ordered the Normandy Battles book that BF made to review it. I will come up with a balanced scenario based on that. No one seemed opposed to playing for an entire weekend.
Maybe we could do an intense Invasion day saturday to start.
I just want to make sure people keep this fresh so we can get it in before I leave in june. Once I leave I won't be back until the middle of December.
Can others on the forum put their votes in?

By the by I was down in Claremont today and stopped by to visit Triple play while they have a long way to go before they are fully unpacked what they have done looks very nice. You should be able to do D-Day there.
