I am cross posting this over here! The Triple Play Board Game Challenge (BGC) for 2014 is beginning to take shape. We have a few scoring and rules changes for the upcoming year. The new scoring will be standardized. All tournaments will be worth the same points. 1st Place – 7 points 2nd Place - 5 points 3rd Place – 4 points 4th Place – 3 points 5th & 6th Place – 2 points (only if more than 4 players at final table) All other participants will earn 1 BGC point. The rules stay mostly the same. There will be 12 tournaments this coming year. The overall winner will receive a $60 Triple Play Gift Certificate. The one change is that we will be counting only your best 9 results in the final standings. Cannot make a tournament? Well don’t worry it will not count against you. The schedule will also be more regular this year. The third Saturday of every month there will be a BGC Tournament. There will be a couple exceptions we know of right now in August and next December. Please be sure to check the site for any changes due to unexpected circumstances. Cost of each tournament is still only $5. TP Gift certificates will be awarded for 1st place and one random participant. These will be based on attendance. So the first three tournaments are already planned. [glow=red,2,300] Saturday Jan 18th - Settlers of Catan[/glow] [glow=red,2,300] Saturday Feb 15th – Stone Age[/glow] [glow=red,2,300] Saturday March 15th – Dominion[/glow] We would love to hear any suggestions you might have for future games. I will be posting a thread to discuss just this subject, so being watching for that. Thanks to everyone that participated in the 2013 BGC. Looking forward to another fun, competitive year of Board Gaming at Triple Play! thanks Rod

I will ask again for a board game with a bit more military battle strategy involved, such as Game of Thrones Feast for Crows expansion. I believe that it can be reasonably played in a day's session and would certainly add to the uniqueness that is the board game challenge.

Maybe a military battle game that is a bit lighter would draw more people. My vote would be for Nexus Ops.

GoA is pretty light comparatively for a military strategy game. I've not played Nexus Ops before, but any battle strategy board game is good in my opinion.

I do believe that GoT: A Feast of Crows could work. And now that I have played it a few times... it could work. It is not any slower to play than Agricola or Clash of Cultures, both of which were played this past year as BGC Tournaments. I would say it is a possibility. As is Nexus Ops. Nexus is a quick fun game with some good military strategy. It is a lighter wargame for sure. I will post over the holidays a thread with some games...some polls and see what people are thinking. Thanks for the suggestions Rod

I like those games Temis, but they do not seem to a have a set ending. I suppose we could set a timer, but games like that, as you know can go for awhile with no end. If someone could come up with a way to place a timer on A&A or Shogun (MB) So that a few rounds could be completed in 10:30am to say 5-6pm time period (with a lunch break)...we could look at doing that. I am willing to look at most games...some may not work time wise, some may not be popular enough to draw enough players. We obviously also need enough copies of a game to handle 8-16 players or perhaps more in some cases. I am not against any game...and I would love to see some more military/war games. However they tend to be longer and do not draw as many people. Another way to go...would be to do some one off tournaments of those games. I tried to get Twilight Struggle going as a league...it was semi successful, but not enough. Perhaps a weekend tournament. They have tournament rules for the game. Also other games like Wilderness War, Mr. Madisons War, Sekigahara, War of the Rings, etc... any number of two player war games would work. And many have tournament rules. I would be willing perhaps to help someone with a seperate event with one of those games or even A&A/Shogun. What do you think? Rod

Rod Play SS for three hours at the end of the game if someone has not won a decisive victory (owns over half the provinces) then the winner is the player with the most provinces. tie breaker take your best army fight the person who you are tied with winner of battle breaks tie(no Ronin or castles). I also have something that I downloaded off the geek similar but more complicated. I must play with more blood thirsty people then you do Rod I have never seen a game of SS bog down(even at Triple Play) or we could play Fortress America that has a time limit. OR [/size] 4 player Ogre MK V demolition derby 4 Ogres enter one leaves points awarded for the number of Ogres eliminated. You could play multiple rounds Swiss style to set up the final table Temis

Will players be able to vote in games, or will the games be decided by a committee such as earlier in the year?

Jeff... it won't necessarily be a vote. But I will be asking for game suggestions. Our goal is to find games that are fun, competitive and that most people want to come play. So I am hoping to get a good response, so we can get games that people are interested in, and that fit the BGC model. The BGC is not the only board gaming event that can or will happen at the store over the coming year. Some people have expressed interest in other types of board games that may not work well as BGC tournament games.... I will also post over this holiday when I have more time, some ideas that have been presented to me as possible stand alone events. These include a Shogun/Samurai Swords event and a Twilight Struggle Tournament. So I will be gaging interest in other events as well as games for the BGC. Thanks Rod
