Hi All-
I thought it might be a nice change of pace to, instead of doing a 40k Tournament in April, to run a multi-week fixed-list round robin league that culminates in a May 25th single-elimination tournament.
Details:
Registration: The entry fee will be $10 with all proceeds to prizes. This will be collected on the 20th, so be there to register!
Can't make it on the 20th? You can still play! Just make sure you get your money to triple play and your list in to me before the 20th.
List: Create a 1500 point list using standard force organization. Allies are allowed. Keep in mind that you will be "stuck" with this list for the duration of the league, so make sure it's something that you enjoy playing with. Once you've created the list, upload it using this form
All lists must be received by kickoff day on the 20th.
Format: In true round-robin fashion, you will play each person in the league once.
You'll generate a random mission and deployment using the 40k rulebook. Each game will be treated as a separate one for warlord traits, psychic powers and any other items that are generated at the beginning of the game. The only change is that the d3+2 objective missions are always played with 5 objectives, arranged in a star formation (one in the center of each table quarter and one in the middle of the table) and that the Scouring will have objectives placed evenly throughout the table.
My hope is that Saturday the 20th will allow most people to get games in. If we end up with a truly large number of people involved in the league, I may end up splitting the league into two divisions. In this case you'd only have to play those within your division.
Scoring: A winner in a game scores 2 league points. A loser scores 0.
In the event of the tie on game objectives, calculate the total value of all destroyed enemy units plus half points for each enemy unit reduced below 50% and half points vehicles that are reduced below 50% hull points. The player with the most of these points (even by 1) will be the winner. A player who wins in this manner will score 1 point instead of 2 (like a shootout victory in hockey).
You must get in all your games. Every game that you miss will count as a loss for both players.
The final tournament will be on MAY 25th and consist of the top half of the league and will be seeded by record. Without having final numbers, it's impossible to be able to tell the final format. The winner of this final tournament will be the league championship with a prize equal to the entry fees collected!
Sportsmanship: Score your opponent at the end of each game either:
-Great game! (2) I would love to play against these opponents again and they are shining examples of what the game should be about. It may still have been tense, but that was only because the players were evenly matched and the game was in the balance. This game was in the top 10% of all games I've ever played!
-Decent Game (1). This game was all right. There were some minor disputes or a few moments of grumpiness, but by and large it was an enjoyable game of 40k. This game falls somewhere in the middle 80% of all games I've ever played.
-Unpleasant Game (0). This game was not fun at all. Either because of excessive rules disputes that were not solved in an amicable manner or because of the behavior of my opponents, I did not have a good game. I am comfortable in saying that I would NOT like to play one or both of these players ever again and that this game falls in the bottom 10% of all games I've ever played.
If, at the end of the league, a player has an average score of less than 1, they will be docked two wins.
Reporting: At the end of each game, both players will report all results (including games and sportsmanship) to me via a results thread. I'll post this up when we begin to play games.
I know that was a whole lot of text, but I find it's better to lay things out well in advance. Any questions?
