I think we had a more relax time I feel because of the turnout.

I think another issue was the missions. It took a little extra time in my first two rounds to set up the objectives and what not. Not a big deal, but it stopped things from getting rolling quickly. That on top of the fact that everything got kicked out off a little late just added up to slightly shorter actual dice-rolling window. No biggie, though... I can get my scouts crushed in 2 rounds just as easily as I can in 6. Also, I never felt like I didn't have enough time and I liked the missions that Chris came up with.

Your post was unclear is all. Again this was one tourney run by you. Has anyone had a problem finishing games in a six Ed tourney before this? I haven't. At carnage no one was getting past turn 3 either. I'm not sure where the game slows down but it just does. Now that each game i move and fire every unit it eats up a lot of time. We did only have 1:45 for each round at carnage though

Ross was running CSM and Poofy was running Daemons right? How many people had to ask what stuff did? Games go quicker with players to think about their moves during their opponents turn. Also if you have to spend a lot of time on rolling saves it's because you should probably practice the game a little more. Most of the time though, if a 40k game is going slow it's probably because there are questions being asked "What does this rule do? How does this unit work?" This is my guess. We still have a lot of people who are learning 6th ed rules. GW has some FAQs out too that I haven't checked out yet, but it would change the pace of the game I imagine. (I know Dan and I had a game or two that was a good couple hours because we had to keep asking one another about rules and units (how they worked in 6th). So it happens.) I know I wasn't at the tournament but for the time I was there, this is my 2 cents . And yes deployment can slow a game down big time. Again though, if you have an idea of how your army and your opponents works it should be relatively quick.

Also if you have to spend a lot of time on rolling saves it's because you should probably practice the game a little more. This could not be more wrong if you spend a lot of time rolling saves all it means is your opponent is shooting at you. To be honest you guys are literally denying the sights of your own eyes. Games take longer in 6th edition. We just saw that happen where probably some of the most experienced players (us) couldn't get past turn 3 or 4. In any of my games I don't remember a single time where I or my opponent were playing slow either (please point it out to me if I was slow).

I think setup takes the longest, that and challenges, also the chaos charts takes a bit. I know Ross had to check his book once or twice in the middle of the game, which bogged us down. That and we had a rules question or two.

That's what I was talking about poofy, eats up time.
Ross, how are we denying our selves of anything? Taking a long time on saves should not be a problem at all. Can you give me an example? I mean if you are running a complicated squad, sure I see it taking A LITTLE more time. But "I hit you with 6 rends, 12 armor. Take Rends first." ~Rolls 6 invul saves or just removes 6 models. Rolls 12 dice, removes X models that died.~
I am not by any means calling you a bad player Ross, don't even assume that. That does not mean; however, that you were playing at a quickened pace. It honestly depends on both players as well. For instance Dan and I play not only one another, but the game a lot. Deploying and objective placing is done almost unhealthily fast. I am also not saying I am better at the game than anyone else, do not also assume that. I am not trying to be arrogant. I am making it clear though that games can move quickly.

speaking of slow, you should see my 2k necrons in action, all on foot and each unit has to move and shoot each turn.

My honest reflection is that a 6th edition game has a lot more choices to make when it comes to allocating wounds and all, but that doesn't have to make the games longer. I, for one, am still caught off guard when someone offers a challenge... Just ask any of my opponents Saturday. All in all, I think the 1850 point value is a better upper limit for a 2 hour / game tournament than the 1999.
