It's a good effect, but it slows the game down quite a bit and with multiple players with many tanks, I think it will detract from the game and perhaps make if feel more like bookwork remembering all of the tanks and their individual conditions.

I agree completely with Jeremy and the situation is further complicated because there are three different snow rules in V3, two in the main book and one in the Devil's charge.

Hello Generals, I am a flame of war player that was recruited by Jeremy on the Lebanon mall with a simple tank battle arrange by him. Germans against Americans. I remember it very well. Temis and Mike fighting a infantry battle in a building. So the first memories of Flame of war was Priceless. I have since invested almost four grand in this game in the years since. Sorry to say most have been online due to no support or lack of inventory at the store. I am all about supporting the store. I was there on Black Friday. I bought a Flak36 platoon for my new list I will play. I would have bought more if I saw what I needed. I only had a grand in my pocket that day. I take offense of playing the snow rules in V3 because they would slow the game down. The reason they slow them down for our local players is because you don't play the game at Tripleplay. I have had to travel all over New England to play in version three tournaments and Hobby shop game nights. I have been in Portland, Maine, Hollis New Hampshire, Londonderry, New Hampshire and Carnage this summer to play Flames of War. I really want to play at our store. I think our Vets need to play every week to recruit new players to our club. I think we need new leadership in the direction of Flames of War at the Store. I offered a new direction in our Tanksgiving battle. So far its no way against a guy that has went all over New England and has played on so many tables then the guys at the store this summer. There was no interest in the 2011 tanksgiving event and no support from our local flames of war store. I am speaking from frustration within our club. I have invested to much money in this game not to play Locally. Will

Its simple, turn your turret around, are mark the bogged tank with a bog marker.

Will, I think I do understand your frustration. Our FOW group has fallen apart. Why? Many reasons - space at the store, the attention the Magic players require, varying interests among group members in FOW and in other game systems and eras, distance some had to travel, family commitments, life in general I guess. I have more money invested in this game then even you do and it is frustrating that it does not get much use.
Some of us like FOW and some prefer BKC. Some will play one but not the other. Not trying to point fingers or be judgmental but that is yet another factor.
Plus, again not meaning to be judgmental, we often have a tendency to suck the joy out of some of our events by debating the organization, etc. of the event.
So, lets see if Tanksgiving can't in some way rejuvenate our interest and enthusiasm for the game. Maybe we can get some sort of a regular gaming routine back even if it is not weekly at this point.
This might be heresy, but there are also other WWII game systems out there where we can use our FOW stuff as it. Even if we have to rotate (or experiment with) some other rulesets, I would like to start getting my WWII stuff on the table more frequently.

With the new basement, there is a TON of space at the store. We'd love to see you guys come back any day of the week. There's room for everybody!

Steve, Thanks for your frank post on the state of FOW at Tripleplay. I'm not in the FOW group but I've followed the Ups & Downs of it in the last couple of years that I've been here.
I'm a big fan of WW2 having fought many battles starting at a young age armed with my plastic Thompson up to and including the more recent digital varieties like COD & Battlefield 1942. I've looked at FOW a number of times, but there seems to be something overly complicated about it. I was hoping the new version would streamline and balance the game, but that doesn't seem to be the case. The ONLY thing that draws me to FOW is that people at Tripleplay play it. It doesn't matter how great I think a game is if I don't have people to play against. I would love to occasionally play a WW2 miniatures game and would be interested in trying some demo games of different rules. Battlegroup Kursk could be interesting...
We played Disposable Heroes last year which I thought was great (played fast, balanced, skirmish level, etc). I've been considering putting together a small 28mm German army from Wargames Factory with the hopes of some more games like that. They sell a $20 box with 30 figures that can be configured in a number of different setups.
Count me in if you (or others) explore different rules and/or put together some demo games.
Jeff

I hope others post their views on trying to rejuvenate WW2 gaming at TP. I would be interested in trying out other WW2 game systems. Since I have a huge investment in 15mm FOW miniatures I would, obviously, prefer game systems that allow me to use what I have. I would be open to a WW2 gaming night where we did play a mix of game systems. Maybe even had multiple games each week using different systems. Maybe even a general historical miniatures night.

I have no problem trying other WWII systems and I own a bunch of (among them Disposable Hero's) We could use FOW based figures for Disposable Hero's using casualty caps(reinforcer's for loose leaf-note books make cheap ones) to mark off kills. The only real problem would be sending a portion, one or two, of team into something like a building but that can be gotten around too. I can't think of any miniature system that could not be played using any scale of figures. The cost and the space needed might be prohibitive for some though, like FOW in 28mm ;D. Battlegroup Kursk is the latest and greatest new flavor: www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/485277.pageThe only thing I am not sure about is if you can make your own scenarios or if you must use the designers I am willing to try out any new systems or any other historical period

Disposable Heroes with 15mm would be interesting. I skimmed the rulebook and don't see anywhere that you reduce the movement scale. It looks like infantry still go 6" (or Sneak 3" or Run 9"). Would anyone want to try one of the scenarios from the books? Something like "The Factory" (American Vs German 1944 Defense) from "Blood and Guts!"? I don't have any 15mm models but I can bring the rulebooks. I might be able to make a Friday night before Xmas (assuming it's not "highjacking" the regular FOW Friday night). BTW, what do people think about the new FOW Open Fire? I'm a big fan of big-box starter sets and this one has caught my interest, especially at $70. A ton of models (118) and a mini-rulebook is always great. But, I really like the little touches like the cardboard terrain, V1 objective model, magnets for your tanks, ammo crates for basing, American & German dice, etc. When they say it's everything needed to play they weren't kidding. I could using this as a 15mm starter army for any WW2 rule set. Jeff

Some other miniatures have been played like Malfuix but no FOW. I can bring enough 15mm figures to play a scenario. Let me know how many you think we will need. As for the movement differences not to worry those distances are about the same as figures move in FOW(actually the running speed is slower). I think that Open fire is a great deal however for me I don't really need it. I own most of the figures in box set already, the V1 objective is the only thing I find interesting, but maybe if I need more tanks Temis

I agree that the Open Fire! box seems to be a great deal. That said, I already have way too much FOW stuff and have no plans to buy it. However, if I were just getting into the game I would definitely buy it. I think Battlefront got this one right - it really seems to be enough to get you started in a meaningful way. Much better than the 5 tanks in the first Open Fire set.

For Tanksgiving, I think air is allocated as an asset to both sides??? Air should not be included in our 2500 point lists? Can someone confirm that? Jeremy - I think you sent me the Tanksgiving scenario rules but I have lost that e-mail.
