Aeroplanes looks pretty cool. I will bring blackbeard again if anyone wants to brush up their middle school math skills...

Rod,
You'll most likely read this well after the fact. Turns out I won't be there tonight, and also not next week. Next time I'm there I'll bring Trajan, Fleet, and the latest play test revision of Sails to Steam.
As I will be able to be there on more Wednesdays in the coming months I'm also going to be trying to get people to learn the 18XX genre. I have 18EZ which teaches it in three graduated steps. The first two are about two hours each for up to six people.
My goal is to play some of the "real" 18XX games. Is there typically room in the store or basement on Ameritrash Sundays during the winter for an 18XX game table? They would add a heavier alternative to what you typically play then. In case you don't know, they do take up an entire table and the shortest ones last three hours.

Hi Rick, Of course the Wednesday game nights are open to any game that can fit in that time slot. However I would like to keep the Ameritrash Sunday game days devoted to that genre. Of course we are not prohibiting anyone from playing a certain kind of game, but the reason that the Ameritrash Sundays were started were to play the longer, more involved thematic multiplayer games that we can't fit in on Wednesdays. We often need the big table downstairs as well. I would suggest holding a reoccurring "18xx" game day on an alternate Saturday or Sunday. (After checking with Sean or Tony of course). This way there will not be any conflict over players or table space. And the people who have the time and interest to play in both genres can attend both game days. Thanks, Andy

They will take less space than Eclipse(played at least twice). They are a bit to big to play one one of the tables, the maps are not all that big but there is extra materials that need to be spread out . There is a smaller table in the basement that could be used to provide the extra space. Andy I think you are panicking about this, Why not let Rick run one on a Ameri-trash Sunday and see how it works out, before talking about setting up a special day(s) for it. Who knows you might enjoy playing them? Temis

Woooo Temis.... You are completely misreading me here. Why would I panic over someone wanting to bring a game to play? I have three children under five years old, I have plenty of real reasons to panic on a daily basis. What I was trying to do was explain the purpose (as I see it) of Ameritrash Sunday by comparing the types of games we play on Sunday to the typical game played on Wednesday. I was not intending to make any judgment of the thematic worthiness of 18xx games, their complexity, or the amount of space they take on the table. I was trying to be helpful. Anyways... Rick said: Many of the Ameritrash Sundays we have had 10+ people show up. If this happens you (Rick) will probably get your game played. If only six people show - maybe, maybe not. I have found that if I really want to get a game played, especially to run any formal or informal "series" of games, you really need to have a dedicated time to do so. Otherwise you may end up playing Citadels or something like that. Peace to all.

by Rod before the 2nd Ameritrash SundayAndy If only 6 players show up then I hope that we can talk them into into playing an 18xx game(most of them will take up to 6 ). If not to bad, so sad, try again the next Ameritrash Sunday. It seems to me that you believe playing 18xx games is far more complicated than it really is. Again I think that we should try it out before deciding that a "dedicated" day is needed. Temis

I think 18XX games are fine for an Ameritrash Sunday if people are interested. We usually post here what games people are looking to play. If there is enough interest, then people should go for it. There is usually enough room for two games to be going off if we have the players.
If it looks like the 18XX games are getting a following I am sure we could talk to Sean about a dedicated "train games" day. It might even be fun to do a Puffing Billy Tournament over the course of a year? But first step...
Rick if you are interested it getting an 18XX game started post to the Ameritrash Sunday discussion when it goes up. See if there are any that want to play. You can always just bring it as well, but like Andy said that does not guarantee that people will want to play. This is true of any game. (But please do bring it... I think that there are some that would enjoy the 18XX games)
I will put up next months post this morning. That way people can discuss the games they want to play.
Thanks Rod
