Though it came a bit as a suprise, I opened my email and beheld the wonderful little invitation to the Throne of Skulls GT in Memphis TN in October. The free admission courtesy or my place in the Ard Boyz finals.
As such, I was wondering if anyone else would be interested in attending?

The tournament is October 6th and 7th (the event starts with registration and demos taking place the 5th at 6pm)
It's 1500 points for 40k (you can take allies, max 500 points, and a single fort.), 2000 for fantasy. 5 rounds, 2.5 hours each. There are awards for best score per army, overall best, best painted, and the "skull taker" which is most points worth of units killed through all games.
All armies must be fully painted.
There's an onsite hotel I can register with as part of my package, it's 99.00 per night for a standard or double.
There's alot of other little events (pub quiz, painting etc)
Any other questions, let me know

500 point restriction for allies? That's odd (Although 1500 is the girls prime number.)
I might be interested! When do you need to know by?

More then anything I'm looking at it from the perspective of splitting a room, considered a car pool since airlines tend to wreck armies, and someone I know to shoot the doody with and drink etc. reservations I believe need to be made by the end of the month.

Oh second thought Mark I would love to go with you! I can easily get my army painted and ready to go by then. We can even take my car even if you wanted to carpool.

Sounds good. Either way I'm sure it will be a good time, and a chance to compete against some of the best.
Ultimately I'd think up to 2 more would be great, but not nessesary. We will discuss te details more in person.

Do you guys think the experience would be worth the cost for someone extremely inexperienced like myself?

Meta, if you wouldn't have to pick up a ton of models just to get a list competitive enough to go I would say yes. But factor in that you still need to buy a ton of models (for whichever army you decide to be primary) and then all the costs of going I think you would be rushing too much. It's probably a good 200+ to get the models you would need not including modeling supplies. But I have a question for you. Do like this game a lot? Is this a game you are seriously considering getting into. If it is I would say go for it anyway

I'd probably play Tyranids. And based on what I have, I'd need about $210 to get what I need to make a halfway decent army, plus another $110 for the missing rulebooks. I'm not saying I'm not going to do it, but I need to think it over. Is there a firm deadline to when I need to make a decision? I'll know by Monday if I am gonna go for it or not.

Monday would be fine.
As for Tyranids: I have a fair amount of them as well, including the codex
