The mini megabattle to kick off the winter league was fought Feb 4th at Triple Play. Four 500 point forces on each side.
FORCES OF GOOD: Apathy reigns over the civilized world! The Wood Elves turned out in force - from the burning forests of New Yorke and the Hartland woods. The dwarfs under King Ross Grimbeard were there. The wardens of the Wald (the Empire) were there. But where were the other races? The Bretonians of Hampshire sent only one envoy who promptly left after mumbling some excuse about being otherwise occupied in service to the Lady of the Lake. The Bretonians of the Village of Perkins were absent. No one has heard anything from the northern high elves of Dru Fess. The Dwarfs of King Antonin the Daemonhunter were absent. The Lizardmen of Bomoseen did not appear. (Which side they will fight on is anybody's guess!) Rumor has it that Antonin's dwarfs were stalling the Lizardmen's advance, leery of their allegiances.
FORCES OF EVIL: What alliance of evil races? Only the Dark Elves of Ascutney (under Lord's Devin and Steve both bringing along double the required contingent) made a showing. Not a good start to this grand alliance of doom. The Dark Elves will not easily forget that their friends (er - "associates", see signature below) quickly abandoned them. The Dark Elves from the land of Rut claim to have been forced into detention camps while trying to pass through Fair Haven. The three cowardly Skaven clans were either migrating to Middlebury or tending their nests, or "working". The Orks of Garbo were reportedly stranded atop Salt Hill feasting on looted beer. The rumored appearance of the Ogres of Necronian Tom proved to be much ado about nothing.

The good guys were encamped around the watchtower where the conclave of nations was taking place. Six markers were on the table indicating their main campsites. Their forces were scattered throughout the table - unaware and unsuspecting of what was to come. Their goal was to protect their envoys and destroy any enemy force that might approach.
The evil forces were to enter from the table edges and cause maximum confusion - looting, pillaging, and burning the camps. Good work for a Dark Elf!
The Dark Elves entered from one short table side and down the adjacent ends of the long sides. They quickly secured two of the six campsites and almost half of their forces fell to looting and pillaging (with the burning to follow shortly). Thirty DE warriors entered opposite the glade riders from the burning forests of Yorke and promptly decimated them with deadly repeater crossbow fire. Two War Hydra boldly advanced into the thick of the camp.
The good guys quickly responded with all of their units passing required leadership tests to activate on their first turn. The Wood Elves of Hartland, mostly bowmen, found themselves on the far side of the battle field and had to advance toward the fighting. The dwarfs "quickly" pushed forward to try to recover one of the campsites.
The DE Crossbowmen took down the Empire Pistoleers. However, a unit of dryads defeated one of the crossbowmen units and then attacked a weakened War Hydra who had just barely survived a round of shooting from every WE bowman on the board. (But there was enough bowmen left to wound the lone DE Sorceress and make her flee off the board.) The War Hydra defeated the dryads ,who were unable to deliver the one last needed wound to kill the beast) only to be felled by more bow fire but not before it had set a third camp on fire.
Meanwhile, one unit of dwarf warriors drove another DE crossbowmen unit off the board and turned to face the second War Hydra (which had just burnt most of their fellow dwarfs in the other unit to a crisp) only to flee off the board in terror when the Hydra charged them. The dwarf Thane did manage to take out a DE general before succumbing to multiple repeater bolts to the chest.
Having pillaged thoroughly two campsites and set both of them and a third on fire, the DE forces quickly withdrew with their loot leaving behind only a rear guard.
The game ended with an 11-8 DE victory.
The campaign has begun! Darkness and chaos will reign supreme! Quake in thy boots, o ye followers of the Light! Let the destruction of the civilized world begin!
Assuming, of course, that any of the other so-called evil races besides the Dark Elves ever show up to do any destroying!

Due to a tunnel collapse, the Accolytes of Affection (a sub-clan of the mighty Clan Pestilens), were a day late in arriving at the council meeting. Ever the optimists, the rats saw this a two-fold bonus: A free meal and no one had to die for it. The Monks and Censer Bearers quickly descended on to the field in search of some tender elf flesh to sup upon. As they were eating, Le Bretons de Hampshire showed up and, finding the scene utterly distasteful, attacked the poor skaven.
The skaven, caught unaware were pretty much wiped out by the filthy man-things, but not before ridding the world of 2 units of archers, a trebuchet and an entire unit of knights. And knowing how quickly skaven breed and how cheap it is to field them, the cost was worth it. All praise the Gnawer of the Roots of Reality! (aka "the Horned Rat")
Jeremy beat my Bubonic Court pretty badly in a 1.5K game. Lots of fun in the losing though. Who is keeping track of the # of games we play. Honor system?
Any takers for game next Tues or Wednesday? Any point value up to 2K.

Great post, Lloyd. I will create a thread for us to post our results and to connect with each other for games.
Yes, honor system for game results.
So that was why the Bretonians were absent Wednesday, they were were hiding out to ambush you. My Dark Elves will attempt to avenge you on Tuesday against the very same man-things.

Yes...Le Bretons de Hampshire prevailed against the foul rat-men. The Luck of the Lady was truly with us this day. We mourn the loss of the Knights, as for the commoners...I guess we'll mourn them too, but just for a moment.
Le Bretons also engaged in a war games exercise today against the Dwarves of King Ross Grimbeard. Again, Le Bretons handily held the field. Perhaps, the Lady of the Lake has seen fit to honor us again with her blessings. The only casualty was a lone trebuchet crewman who's leg was caught in the ropes and was last seen ascending into the heavens. (MISFIRE!)
(Sadly, Ross was the only one who showed for the tourney so we had a scrimmage).

Well... I've got to procrastinate somehow, don't I?
I'm looking forward to everyone's posts in the other thread.
