Hello Everybody, While in Michigan, the family and I would like to do some roleplaying. Can anyone point out some pre-made characters for D&D 3.5?
Or instead, are there any lightweight RPGs anyone could recommend? We would rather not spend a week learning a system just to play one night.
Thanks, Jeff

I 'm sorry that I do not have a really good answer. but it has been years since I had anything to do with RPGs Good luck Temis

When you say "the family," who is going to be playing? For simple fantasy including very young try Zorcerer of Zo. For simple, cynical sci fi try 5:15. Simple superhero is Villains and Vigilantes and the premise of V&V is good for families and kids. For games involving adults who want more than just hack and slash try Ghosts of Albion or Scion.
I agree with Temis about early D&D. It's simple and holds up well. For D&D a lot of first edition modules were designed for tournaments. They would have premade characters in them specially designed for the game. Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan comes to mind, maybe some others.
My wife loves Arkham Horror, which is kind of boardgame role playing. Not kid friendly tho.

Wizars of the Coast used to have 3.5 character sheets on their website for quite some time after 4th edition was introduced. I checked the site, but was unable to locate the old world character sheets on their site.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I've tried looking for old convention pre-gens and what not, but haven't found anything useful. We ended up just rolling up some barebones characters without using any of the skills except things like perception. I looked into the revised original AD&D at: ttp://www.adnd3egame.com/cnc.htm You can download the whole players handbook here: www.adnd3egame.com/documents/ADD3primeless.pdfThe players range from my nephew at age 10 to my son age 15 to me at age XLIV. For a gang of guys of that age I'd go 1st edition D&D and just add color because the kids won't know how to. So make sure the "fighter" is a wandering samurai being hunted by yakuza, or the "magic user" has some weird curse. Then give 'em each one interesting magic item again with color. The +1 sword becomes The Sword of Vengeance, that sort of thing. No one cares about a +1 hammer but it's exciting to go on a quest for the Hammer of Thor, which is in fact a +1 hammer. Give kids a bit of color and they'll run with it.
Do think about Villains and Vigilantes. It's good for that age range and easy to run.

I've got a 4 page FUDGE based game that is very quick & easy to run & play. Suitable for beginners & first timers. Happy to email you the rules & character sheet.
