As part of a recent online order I was offered a choice of a promo, but none for games that I play. I saw an L5R promo, and I thought that even if I don't play I could pass on a few cards to someone who does. Now that the promo is here (it's the Battle of Beiden Pass), it is really a full introduction to L5R with two decks and a booklet to walk you through learning the rules. The only problem is that it is from 1996.
If I learn how to play from this promo am I going to be learning things that are now wrong?

The turn structure remains essentially the same (Unbow Phase, Events Phase, Action Phase, Attack Phase, Dynasty Phase, End of Turn Phase), but yes, the game has changed massively in the last fifteen years. It will give you a rough idea of the flavour of L5R, but isn't massively useful outside of that. Sorry dude.
