I never once cracked out my Rasheth list, but I think I would have done better in the two games I lost if I had! (hindsight...heh)
1. First round was against Legion of Everblight, pThagrosh. He had a Scythean, Carnivean, two little guys, two units of Ogrun and an Ogrun commander solo of some kind. In other words, Hexeris's feat turn was GARBAGE! All that heavy infantry...ugh. We duked it out back and forth, but I neglected to realize that Thagrosh has a spell that allows him to replace the model he kills at range with it. So he blasted a Beast Handler that was right by Hexeris...and game over.
2. Second round was against Legion again! He was using Bethayne/Belphegor, a crapload of Hex Hunters, 2 Hellions, Blackfrost Shard, and an Angelius. I managed to take out his Angelius before it could seriously threaten my warlock, and tied up his Hellions with Praetorians. Bethayne buffed up her Defense with a bunch of spells and the Shredder's animus, and his in some trees...so her Def was 19!
I went for a major longshot and blasted her with the Basilisk Drake's spray, since it ignores cover. I still needed a 12 to hit! Boosted to hit...a 13! Woohoo! Bethayne's armor is really low and she only has about 12 hit points, so I boosted the damage and rolled just enough to kill her! SKORNE VICTORY!
3. Third round saw me going up against a Cryx army that was almost all jacks with Mortenebra (who obviously loves lots of jacks!). He also had Deathjack, a Seether, Slayer, Reaper, Stalker, a Necrotech solo, and two Warwitch Siren solos. He pressed the attack early on, and mowed through my Praetorians pretty quick. I tried twice to channel Obliteration through my Wurm to blast Mortenebra, but couldn't quite kill her. On the second turn, when scoring opened, my Razorwurm scored a single Control Point...which became important later. He proceeded to kill most of my army until I was down to an Agonizer, Basilisk Drake, Hexeris and a Beast Handler. The Deathjack was about an inch from Hexy, and the Stalker was in melee with the Drake.
I took some time to try and figure out what to do. It was obvious that a caster kill was beyond me at this point, so I was trying to figure out if I could just run for the objectives and get some more CPs. Before I could act on my plan, time was called. That one Control Point I scored earlier in the game won it for me. Can't forget to play the scenario, folks! It was a tough match all in all, he really had me in a tight spot.
4. Fourth round had me in second place, playing for top table against an undefeated Cygnar force! My instinct was to pick the Rasheth list, but Jordon reminded me that this was more or less top table and I should play what I'm familiar with, so I deferred to the Hexeris list. Looking back, I probably should have gone with Rasheth, but that's my fault not his!
pCaine, two units of Arcane Tempest gun mages, black 13, two hunters, some solo i cant remember, and a Defender...I was looking down the barrels of a few dozen guns! My Praetorians rushed up on my first turn, but then immediately got blasted to hell by all the combined firepower and Caine's feat (where he shoots everyone in his control range of 12...he killed roughly 10 Swordsmen by himself)! My front line collapsed, I had nothing better to do than to limp towards him and pray for some missed shots. He picked me apart piece by piece, but on the last turn he took a risk and put Caine within striking distance of my Titan Gladiator. His whole army took a shot at Hexeris, but he still stood with 3hp...the only model left to shoot was a Hunter.
Hunters are POW6 shots, with Armor Piercing so they are designed to take out big beasts and medium bases. He went for critical brutal damage and boosted the to hit with his jack marshal...and hit with three 4's! So the brutal damage kicked in and he rolled high enough to snipe Hexeris down.
I ended up in fifth place, but I had 4 great games and a lot of fun! The guys up there are super cool. Can't wait for the next one, I definitely learned a few things!
