I think counts as is awesome as a creative modelling project. As long as the minis look good, are WSYWIG, and coherent to your theme it should never be a problem. The hobbyist spent many hours on those minis and it shows.

I think Goatboys original army was fine and creative. It was the fact that he refuses to use anything but the space wolf dex on his next project which brought him a lot of flack.
