So we all have had our forces a while now, and we all have had time to paint. Some of us have even gotten some try-out games in. Now it is time for us to start putting our little ships to good use.
Our D6 generation friends from in Southern New Hampshire have cooked up a campaign setting that I propose we are going to use. It's called the X-Cam and is somewhat more abstracted than many of you might be used to, but it provides a fun framework to entice us to get some action going.
There are three sizes of battles, small to large, and you will play a bunch of small ones before you get up to the next level. This is how it works:
• Recon Mission: Players engage in small battles to gain Recon points. Recon points represent ‘intelligence’ your forces have gained about the Command Area, enemy positions, and assets.
• Strategic Missions: Once you have enough Recon points you may spend them to challenge other players to larger battles to gain Strategic points. Strategic points represent your offensive position in the area. The more Strategic points you have, the better positioned you are to make a critical strike and establish control.
• Control Missions: Players that have gained a strong strategic position are now ready to coordinate large engagements, such as Stronghold Assaults and Force Superiority battles, to gain Control points. Control points represent how much dominance your forces have in the area.
• The first player to gain 3 Control points will win the X-Cam.
There's more to it, of course, so read up on it here: www.thed6generation.com/dystopian-war-s-x-cam
What I like about this system: there is no minimum commitment in time. You can play as much or as little as you like. Also, because you start small you gradually will learn the rules, instead of all at once like we've done. I am sure we will have numerous issues that need deciding by someone, so I am nominating myself as upper-judge and score keeper, and Chuck as judge on disputes in games that I play in myself. This is of course until you guys find someone else who does a better job.
My first official ruling: we will butch up rules. That's OK. When we find out, we will play with the correct rules from there on out. If someone got an advantage because a rule was botched then so be it, no taking back.
I want to start the campaign officially on Saturday the 30st of Aril, and everyone who wants to play should have signed up by then. To sign up, just post on this thread, or somehow get in touch with me (I'm always around Wednessday nights, but letting Tony or Sean know will work just as well)
