There is a GC tourney on feb 12th 2000 points. it's been a while and I think we should rally the troops and head down there.

Point # 1: 2000 point games are for those fruity west coast people only.
Point # 2: I'd like to have the ToC Playoffs on that day, if the games are finished up. And if the games are not finished up, I'd like to have people finishing up their games on that day.

Alas, if I make it into the tournament I will be in Colorado that weekend and the next for my winter break. (from saturday to saturday) I will bow out though if I make it and the group decides to have it that weekend without griping. Just some bad timing on my part.

Nah... I'm just of the opinion that the game works best at 1500 or 1850. Much above that and you get Ard Boyz style weirdness and much below you get Poofy running a train on my army with Mephiston.
And Brian, don't worry, if you get into the playoff we will make sure to hold on a weekend that you're there. This applies to any one of the four playoff finishers (within reason, if you go on a 6 month safari in Africa then I'm letting the number five finisher in).

How is Ard Boyz wierd? Being able to field a massive army is sweet

How is Ard Boyz wierd? Being able to field a massive army is sweet Sure is. That's why they made apocalypse. They also recognized that there is literally no way to balance the game at that level, which is why apocalypse is just wacky crazy fun.

I don't see how the game is more unbalanced at higher point costs. lower point costs like 1850 don't prevent you from fielding the cheesy stuff. and besides 2000 is not much bigger than 1850. I don't see where all this hate comes from.

Point # 1: 2000 point games are for those fruity west coast people only. *bamf* The hell you say, son? Way to move the goalposts to avoid the taste of my 2000 point chocolate-thundah! I really think it depends on the Codex. I think 1850-2000 points is the sweet spot for most Codexes, particularly those that need more points to get out from under their garbage troops (Necrons, Tau, et al.)

lol you heard me!
I was kinda surprised that both you and E were playing at 2000 out there. Suggests a different meta.
2000 is really not that much worse than 1850. But I'm noticing a slippery slope. When I started the game around at the beginning of the century the average game was around 1500. It inched up to 1750 then to 1850. Now we see a trend towards 2000. This is all while the models themselves have been decreasing in point cost.
Old codices? Yes that's sad. But when you are facing down two wolf stars or Mephy + Sanguinor (which wolves and angels can feasibly do at 2000), there is only so much counter cheese you can cram into your list with those old dexes anyway.
I don't like ard boyz because the games take too long for a tournament and it feels like some people are basically fielding their entire collection.
Each to their own obviously.

Back to the original post, only 4 people are playing in the playoffs so the rest of us should go down. I also think that we can't let this (ToC) drag out because it's unfair to stop all other 40k activities when realisticaly we know who's in the running and who isn't.

Indeed. I will go down if I'm out of the playoff, or they are a differnt time. Though I hope that the missions are a little more balanced then I thought the one for the sleigh Bells was

I think that 2000 is the upper limit for games that aren't being played in someone's garage while drinking beers. Ard Boyz, to me, is a bit of a chore.
