Tournament of Champions
This is a tournament to determine once and for all who the greatest player at 3play is! Or who is the luckiest git.
Unlike a conventional tournament, that limits you to playing only 3-5 of your opponents, in this format you will get to try your hand against the entire field. Once all these games have been played, the top four finishers (or more, depending on how many entrants we get) will come to TriplePlay for one-day, single elimination playoffs. The winner of these playoffs will be crowned the TriplePlay champion!
Basic Rules:
-1850 Point armies. You make one, you send it to me via private message SOMETIME ON OR BEFORE WEDNESDAY JANUARY 6th. Then, once all army lists have been received, I will post it on a thread of its own. You are then bound to that list for the rest of the tourney.
-$10 entry fee, with all proceeds going to the winner, save for $10, which will be given to the player who receives the most “favorite opponent” votes. Entry fees will be collected by Tony at Triple Play.
Round Robin Phase
-Will start January 8th.
-You play each other player involved in the tourney once and only once.
-You roll for mission and deployment as normal, taking from the scenarios in the main rulebook.
-If possible, get a neutral party to set up the table.
-A win is worth 2, a draw 1 and a loss 0, at the end of the round robin phase, the four players with the most points will advance to the playoff phase.
-If there is a tie in win/loss/draw at the end of the round robin phase, this will force a tiebreaker based on "battle points" earned throughout the tourney.
In a win you get "battle points" depending on your margin of victory and the mission.
Annihilation: the amount of kill points you beat your enemy by. (i.e. blodgetter beats Lanky by 3 kill point, he gets 3 battle points)
Seize Ground: each objective that you beat your opponent by multiplied by 2 (i.e if doctorclockwork has 2 objectives and Poofy has 3, Poofy would win by 1 objective and earn 2 battle points)
Capture and Control : each objective that you beat your opponent by multiplied by 4 (Snickerdoodle beats ross 1 objective to none and earns 4 battle points)
-At the end of the round-robin phase, all players should submit their vote (in secret) for “favorite opponent”. The winner of this vote will receive the $10 dollar sportsmanship award.
-Round Robin Phase should be completed by the weekend of February 12th.
Playoff Phase
-At the end of the round robin phase, the four players with the highest number of points will be invited to the playoffs, which will be held at triple play on a date that works for all invited players.
-Players are still bound to the lists they used in the round-robin phase. No changeups!
-Players will be seeded by the number of points they received in the round robin round (i.e. the first place finisher will be play the fourth place finisher, while the second and third place finishers will play each other). I may also elect to give higher-placing players a further advantage (such as a bonus on the roll to go first or allowing them to select the mission). Point being, you want to be the first place finisher out of the round robin-phase.
-The winners of that seeded round will then advance to the championship game. The winner of this game wins the tourney and all the credit!
-Overtime! Since these are single elimination games, there cannot be a tie. In the event that the game ends and the players are tied, the game will continue for ONE extra round to allow the players to force a victory. If the game is still tied after this extra round, the game will end and victory points will be used as a tiebreaker.
