Mark brought up an interesting conundrum today.
When a drop pod comes down in range of a mystic, and you get your "immediate" shot against it, what is the timing of the event?
Drop pods state that the passengers "immediately" disembark, but the mystic states that you get an immediate shot on the pod. So does the shot resolve before or after the marines/dread/whatever pile out? This could be important because it would be possible to roll a 6 and wound the marines inside.

The FAQ says the DH player shoots and whatever they want.

Yeah but does that mean they get to shoot the pod while the marines are still embarked?

Q. Do Inquisitorial Mystics allow “free shots” at units arriving by Drop Pod? A. Yes. The shooting is resolved after the Drop Pod lands and the passengers have disembarked. Either the Drop Pod or the disembarked unit may be the targeted, but not both. |

What if there are three units in the drop pod? i.e. 2 marine combat squads + character. Do you resolve shots against each of those if you pick the disembarked unit?

Nah, they disembark into their combat squads, then you decide what you're shooting at. The rules and FAQ don't give permission to do otherwise.

What confuses me though is that it states "for every unit within 4d6 inches. But remember that the drop pod is coming down with troops embarked - it is one unit, who immediately disembark. The mystic allow you to fire immediately at deepstriking units. The compromise for these two immediate effects was to allow you to shoot at either the disembarking unit, or the pod itself. Not an elegant solution, but it works. |
