"I had heard that you wouldn't be allowed to initiate new combats with a consolidation move. " Than's my understanding too. No more consolidating right through your opponents entire army. That's wonderful news. I might just try fielding 100+ guardsmen in competitive play again. Sounds like fun!

Yeah I get a 4+ cover save for daemonettes hiding behind other daemonettes. Which is real helpful when you consider that the closest unit is the one that's going to get shot. I assume I can't hide a keeper of secrets behind daemonettes, because that would actually help me.

Has it occurred to anyone that it might be the reason GW made those changes in the Ork Codex? How much more pissed would ork players be if all of a sudden one aspect of their army was suddenly given to everyone else? They'll still be the best with the cover save considering how many boyz are on the table in the average game. Now they get the Grot save and all the new stuff. I'd almost play Orks if I wasn't such a lazy painter.

Yeah, but what if your Daemonettes are behind Plaguebearers? That my friend is the bomb-diggity.

I'd almost play Orks if I wasn't such a lazy painter. Well, they already did that by removing the choppa, and replacing it with a CC weapon (ie wet noodle.) Without going into a long winded personal diatribe, the ork codex is a poor product for a number of reasons, the missing grot save was in and of it self not the deal breaker. I sincerely think that GW doesn't make products with any forthought other than they need the periodic sales spike that new releases bring.

Well I'm not going to diagree with that.
Honestly though, is losing the Choppa that big of a deal? Against MEQs it's only marginally easier to kill them at 4+ instead of 3+. I can see how it would be a lot better against 2+ saves but those aren't really all that common... And with the size of the squads and that they're fearless until they're below 12 means you should still get a round or two with your Nobs powerfist before he even takes a wound.

Ah. the part that I hate. The size of the squads hasn't changed - orks could always take 30 strong mobs. Some of us grumpy old timers always took large mobs, this is not a new tactic. (ask zorbag). The only " difference" was point cost - 9 pts for a boy with a choppa, to 6 with one without. And in the new dex orks ate the point cost elsewhere - other mobs went up to 15 pts per model base for elites, and lost decent saves. Not a good trade, but thanks, GW! Would you pay 3 points per model as an upgrade to negate all armor saves to 4+? Yeah, that's easy math. End result - a CC army that was hard to play, and win with, became a close range shooty army that costs lots of money to build right. Maybe I'm full of doody. But than again, I don't see the orks winning in tourney's. And I used to win, a lot, with my old, underpowered last codex orks. GW wins!
