Hi Rod, I'd be interested in participating in these upcoming tournament events, especially Dominion. Do we need to sign up ahead of time, or just show up? Thanks for the info! Jenn

Jenn,
We had not discussed that. I think that just showing up is okay. I will talk to the others about this and figure that out. Good question....
Thanks Rod

You've got some great games listed, but how about some more conflict based strategy games, such as Axis & Allies and Game of Thrones?

You've got some great games listed, but how about some more conflict based strategy games, such as Axis & Allies and Game of Thrones? I agree with you - I would like to see at least one or two more strategic/"Ameritrash" games on the list. I think that Axis and Allies might be awkward - we would have to either have teams, which would not be consistent in number. Or it would be 1on1 games, which would take a while. As for Game of Thrones.. if several people want to have it as a tournament then we can definitely consider adding it. My only concern with a game like Game of Thrones is that there are not alternate winning conditions besides the military/diplomacy/back stab methods of winning. With prizes on the line, I worry that the tournament experience might be a little too intense. However that's just my two cents, I could be worried for nothing... I think that we should run the games that will get the most amount of players and therefore generate enough support for the story. This is a good discussion. What do other people think? What other games would people like to see?

What other games would people like to see? Axis & Allies tournaments can be done in a day, as long as you have a full compliment of players, 5 for the base sets. Playing any other version of A&A can definitely take up quite a swath of time. Howevever, as long as the tourney is posted far enough in advance to generate interest, the first 5 to the boards will get spots & teams can be worked out later on. Game of Thrones is a different ball of wax entirely, and I can see where some problems might arise. I would very much like to see a tournament for GoT, but like A&A, it would have to be posted far in advance to generate the interest for players. They can both be done, and having games of that caliber on the tournaments, will just offer that much more for players to choose from. I would certainly be up for the challenge of assisting to get these two particular games off the ground for the tournament, as I love that style of board game. Any other games of a similar nature would be a welcome addition as well. Any takers?

For now, the way we handle the monthly tournaments and decide what games will be played is by having people submit suggestions (Settlers, A&A and GOT have been noted) and vote amongst the people organizing these events (Rod, Chuck, Andy, Sean and Robert for now) if and when we want to do an event of it. One of us will be designated "organizer" for the event and we may approach enthusiast people to help us set up the event for that particular game. In truth, some games just lend themselves better to a tourney settings with multiple rounds than others (I see issues with both GOT and A&A) and this will be discussed when we discuss which games to do next. There also is the matter of having copies of the game available. We all have rather large collections, so for many games this isn't an issue, but it does mean that we need to like the game enough to have bought it at some point, which means there is a better chance of playing games we like than games we don't so much. But above all, we are trying to create a fun, competitive, sloppy, poorly organized in a Triple Play kind of way, board gaming event every month, with a league like aspect to it to tie it all together somehow. I hope you all join us.

I think all the games mentioned are excellent suggestions. They can and will all be considered. There are some challenges to logistics with some of the games mentioned. Please keep suggestions coming... Thanks Rod
