I can play them on or after the 14th, at 2500 points. Or smaller (Combat patrol 400-500, up to 1250 points) to ease into the rules.

Want to do a few at 500 to ease into the new rules?

At 500 points you're not fielding anything that actually uses any of the new rules

well thats not true, wound allocation and look out sir should take a couple of run throughs to get down.
But both are easy and the most important element seems to be does the unit have 1 armor save or multiple( 1 armor save take the saves first before allocating, multiple saves allocate wounds then take saves or look out sir( and then save )). If anyone wants a game this afternoon( tuesday let me know). also its starting to look like 1999 points is going to be a major cut off because the ability to take a 2nd force at 2000 is going to be a game breaker for some armies.

I totally agree with your point about armies above 2000 chuck, I can't think of a single faction in which I am ok with seeing 6 heavies across the table from me.

The only new rules that don't get used at 500 points are allies and fortifications. Pretty sure I can test the new USRs, psychic mechanics, hull points, vehicle damage charts, vehicle movement, sniping, flyer rules, missions, wound allocation, IC challanges, snapfire/overwatch, etc in a single 500 point list.
See you at 10 on Saturday Jeremy. I figure with 500 we'll be able to get in a few games and get comfortable with the new ruleset. I'll bring two or three Corsair lists and a Tau list so we can try out different things.

Ill probably be around for a game or two on saturday.
Ive read through the rules a couple of times and I'm considering 1999 the new list norm for me. Plus everytime I total up my points I can start singing the song about partying like its 1999.

So, my perspective is that if they can bring 6 heavies, or elites, or whatever, so can I. Moreover, there is still the limiting factor of needing scoring units and the costs of points. Its not like your opponent gets 6 heavies for free.

@ Vinnie - i am not 100% sure I can make it, but I am like 90%... I will keep you updated and plan on bringing a few different 500 point armies made with our combat patrol limitations.

Not all heavies are created equal. In fact most FOC are not equal, its a army dynamic that was surprising built into codexs by GW.
Some armies are severally limited by FOC limits. Tyranid players before 6th would have given there left arm for the ability to field 6 hive guard units. Now they can, which fields a amount of fire power most peoples heavies can't match points wise even with 6 heavy slots.
Having more foc to me is just a means to spam more.
