Saturday June 30th will see a 40k megabattle taking place at Triple Play. All are welcome and it would be cool to see how many different armies we can get represented.
We have three options for players wanting to participate:
Main Table This will actually be 3 tables pushed together to form a massive battlefield the likes of which have only seldom been seen at 3play. This represents the main conflict, a massive battle which will pit teams of huge armies against one another. It will be a standard apocalypse game with 6 objectives. Each objective will be worth TWO points for the side that holds them as time expires (vital objectives will be worth a mighty FOUR).
Army Size: 3000 Points if you bring 1+ super heavies, 3500 if you do not.
Composition: Anything goes, except: no more than one of each special character per side (yes, per side). Other than that, go wild - apocalypse formations are welcome and encouraged. Whatever you bring, make sure you have the rules on hand to show to the other players.
Strategic Assets: One per player. (Note that we've decided to ban the Flank March and distruption beacon assets as they are over-used and make the game horrible for certain army types. If you get one of them through a formation or by other means, simply ignore it - sorry master of the recruits!)
Special Rule: To keep things somewhat sane, any "board wide effect" from a regular codex (aka Imotekh or a Dark Angel psychic hood) is limited to the physical table that the model in question is playing on, not the entire main battle board. So if Imotekh starts on table 1, then the night fight rules are only used on that table, the other two joined tables are unaffected.
Planetstrike:
Triple Play's fourth table will be set up as a planet-strike table with four bastions. This table will represent the efforts of one team to eliminate missile batteries belonging to the other team. (Two players maximum can participate on this table).
Army Size: 2500 Points
Army Composition: Follow the standard planetstrike rules (note that you are still bound by the one special character per side rule, so no matter how awesome and sneaky Snikrot is, he can't be both on the main table and on the planetstrike table).
Planetstrike Strategems: Each players gets four strategem points.
Special Rules: The defender will be allowed 4 buildings to defend. These buildings combined will generate d3 missile strikes on the Main Table of any combination of darkstar or icefire warhead attacks, as per apocalypse reload (but they do not remain in play). If two of the buildings are destroyed they generate d3-1, if three d3-2, and if all then the guns are silenced. (thanks to Chris B. for these rules).
Each bastion held at the end of the game (as per planetstrike rules) counts as 1 point for the side that holds them.
There will also be a zone mortalis game happening for two players. Zone mortalis is an awesome variation of 40k designed to represent the close quarters battles of space hulks, catacombs and other settings not easily shown by the main game system. The goals will be similar to the planetstrike misison (I.E. trying to shut down the darkstar, icefire warheads), except with the sides reversed (the team that is attacking in planetstrike will be defending in the Zone Mortalis). Rules can be found here.
Vinnie and Chris B have both put forward great input to how the zone mortalis will actually work. I'll have a clean decision by the 30th, what you need to know is that those interested in this awesome close quarters action will be bringing a 750 point army. There is space for two players.
Basically, the planetstrike and zone mortalis will each have major effects on the overall game, but the main table and its 6 objectives will likely be what wins or loses the game for a team. Of course, that's not to say that the presence or lack of missiles raining down for one side or the other won't have a very real effect on who wins the main table.
Post to reserve your spot! Let me know what army you're bringing and what table you want to be on. So far we have:
Main Table:
Neb (with his Necrons)
Discordian (Eldar, Tau, Grey Knights)
Snickerdoodle (Black Knights and Renegade IG)
Beakies (Marines)
Planetstrike:
Swarmlord999 (Nids)
Doctorclockwork (Orks)
Zone Mortalis:
Commissardanno (Death Korps)
