If every model has the same save then you roll all the wounds at once and then remove models, but if there are models with different saves in the unit then you have to do it one by one. Example: you do five wounds to my wraiths - I no longer allocate wounds first and just roll my 5 saves - I fail 2 and now one of my wraiths in base contact must die. but if some guys have a 2+ and some have a 3+ then you do have to do it one by one because once you allocate a wound to a model you must keep allocating wounds to him until it is dead or the wound pool is empty.

If the models are like this
X X X Z X X
where z has a different save. You could roll the number of X in front at a time until they are dead (changing each roll group if a model dies) and then you would roll one at a time for Z until he's dead. Then once z is dead youd just roll how many wounds you have left because it doesn't matter.
A shooter also gets to pick which wound pool wounds are taken first. So he could say plasma first then bolter wounds.
In assault at each intative step it works the same except the controller receiving can choose first from among any of the models in base contact to start the allocation.
Character look out sir could factor in as well, so that will effect how you fast roll if you want to use it.

I had a whole list built around the old furious charge that just doesn't get it done without the +1 Initiative bonus. I am working on a jump pack army to rock the hammer of wrath rule though. The coolest part is that you get to take it before your opponent piles in (unless they strike at int 10) so you can focus your attacks on a particular part of a unit.

They FAQed that if an IC gets the red thirst he can only join units that have also gotten the red thirst or death company. That really is a pain.

The funny thing is that BA independent characters don't have the red thirst special rule.

After alot of reading, re-reading, and so on: it looks too me like overall games are going to go slower. Wound allocation issues will actualy be even worse now then before with any of the units that actualy took advantage of it before(nob squads / paladins, etc) coupled with look out sir! and with the addition of duels, much more protracted melees. Overall the new eddition has some interesting concepts and I think will be good, and casual games will rock, being more epic all around, but it going too make the tournaments alot more drawn out and random.

People on dakka are saying they won't even consider tournaments of over 1850 points right now. it's strange, the game goes faster if both players have lists with lots of rank and file models but slows way down when you have a tank character in front who has to take each wound one by one.

man vehicles took a huge hit in this edition, you still need them to cover the large distances to travel sometimes though.
