Announcement and Poll for 40k Events

Hi all-

This is a poll to see where interest is for future 40k events. Select three. Why three? Because three is awesome.

• Standard tournaments would be in roughly the same format as the one that took place last Saturday (3 rounds, W/L/D to determine winner), but with an added painting component (probably a favorite model competition) with a reward for it. If you have a favorite PV for tourneys, list it in the comments.
  
  
• The combat patrol tournament is a fun idea that I've been toying with for a while. Essentially we could run a 5 round tourney because at that point value it doesn't take nearly as long to finish a game. It would probably feature a simple victory mechanism (like simple VPs or a couple objectives) It would allow new players or people with small collections to try out a tournament.
  
  
• Apocalypse megabattle would be just what it sounds like. Everyone shows up with 3000 points (or as much as they can muster if they can't hit 3k yet) and one strategic asset. Then we push all the downstairs tables together, divide into teams and start blowing stuff up.
  
  
• The themed kill team event would be one where you take a single model (or several models under a certain point value) and go on what is essentially a 40k dungeon-crawl across a themed board. Tony has graciously offered to run such an event, and I can say firsthand that he is very good at it.
  
  
• Campaigns would be, well, campaigns. Maps, narratives, tree. It's all on the table. If there's genuine interest we can have a discussion.
  
  
• Round robin leagues are something I've run in the past. They involve everyone committing to play one game against each of the other participants in the league. At the end of the league (usually a month or thereabouts) a single elimination playoff tournament between the top four determines the final winner.

I vote for the first three(1500-1850 for tournaments) but would love anyone of those offered!!

For the round robin (if we do it), we should continue to run 40k events on top of playing round robin games. The last time we did it some people lagged big time on getting their games in and as a result we didn't run any more events for months using the round robin as an excuse and that's frustrating to the people who are knocked out early.

I do like the idea of campaigns and leagues. I just live too far for me really to get interested being involved on a weekly basis.

We have had some successful campaigns and some unsuccessful ones. I think the key to a campaign is to make it short otherwise people always lose interest. Also may I suggest a team tournament with maybe 1500 per person, but make it a round robin so that teams don't have to worry about time constraints and can play games any time. The teams can arrange when they come in to play etc...

Most places do doubles tournaments. At triple play, How about we one up everyone else and do triples tournaments? It is TRIPLE play after all. 500-1000 per player.

EDIT: I imagine with 3 players per side we could games knocked out pretty quick.

I like the idea of random teams. It helps prevent some OTT combos when you get two (or three) FOCs of the same army on the board.

I'm not sure we have enough people to get enough 3 person teams. Also we can do a shared force org. chart so you wont be seing 6 heavy choices on the board or 9 in your case.

I, too like the idea of a team tournament, but thing that 2 seems to make at least more practical sense -- just in terms of coordinating people. I would like to try a 3 on 3 at some point though.

I didn't vote on it but in retrospect combat squads could be tons of fun,in one one day we could do a round robin. with newbies getting to play if they only have squad or 2.

True, I do think it would be really good to get some newer folks with smaller armies in the mix. How many boyz can you take at 400, though?

Sixty six, with a whopping four points left over for... I dunno.
