Hello Everybody,
(Here's a copy of my Carnage tournament report I posted on Privateer Press. Good job Chuck & Rod on another successful Carnage. I didn't hear of any issues with any events.)
I am a new Warmachine player who started with the 2 Player Battle box last month. After assembling all of the models and priming them, I decided to play Khador for now. I also purchased a unit of Widowmakers and a Koldun Lord. I wanted to pickup a second 2 Player Battle Box to beef up both armies, but it's on back-order along with the Vladimir alternate.
This weekend I attended the Carnage Con in Fairlee, VT and played in my first Warmachine tournament. This was a one-day three-round 35 point tournament run by Quarterstaff from Burlington, VT. You were required to have two lists and use both at least once. It started a bit late when the organizer had to run back to the store and get the prizes, but it was well worth the wait. They handed out models left and right. There were 14 players (I think) with 2 players jumping in at the last minute.
My two lists were (I had to borrow another unit of Shocktrooper and Vladimir to get enough points)
Sorscha (1st list) and Vladimir (2nd list) with the rest being the same.
Juggernaut
Destroyer
Koldun Lord (Jack Marshalling the Destroyer)
Widowmakers
Shocktroopers
Shocktroopers
My first game was Kill Box which I lost in 15 minutes. On my opponent's 2nd turn he got a caster assassination. This was a beginner mistake on my part with not having Sorcha tight up behind a unit. There was a small gap in my shocktrooper wall which allowed a caster kill. I think the caster was Epic Haley.
My second game was against Trolls where there were two control flags. You had to score on the first one before you could score on the second. This was a slug-fest in which I learned what a pain Toughness is after failing to kill one model due to 4 successful consecutive saves. Neither of us got control points and I squeaked out a win with 2 army points.
My third game was against Khador. This game had three control points with one disappearing. This was another slug-fest in which I ended up losing by one control point. I did have more army points though.
I ended up winning a unit of Flameguard on the second game due to rolling four ones on a damage roll (boosted damage with Signs & Portents in effect). I did get to drop the lowest though. :-) I also won a copy of Forces of Warmachine: Mercenaries for this being my first tournament.
Thanks to Quarterstaff for running the event and their generosity with all the prizes. I think everyone won something.
