Hello Everybody, I'm thinking about trying to quickly pull together a 35 point list for the Carnage Tournament.
I have the 2-player Battle Box as a start. I was think of picking up a second & a couple of solos and making the following Khador list:
Sorcha Wardog – 1pt
Destroyer - 9pt Destroyer - 9pt Man-O-War Kovnik (Jack Marshaling the Destroyers) - 3pt
Man-O-War Shocktroopers (Leader w/4 Grunts) - 9pt Man-O-War Shocktroopers (Leader w/4 Grunts) - 9pt
40 points total (35 point game + Sorcha's 5 Warjack points)
As far as a strategy, the Shocktroopers would lead the way with Shield Wall boosting them to 21 ARM. The Jack Marshalled Destroyers would hang around mid-field using a boosted Bombard to drop 4” AOEs until they had to close for combat. Sorcha would cast Boundless Charge early in the game for field positioning and switch to Tempest when she can get in range. For Tempest, I would boost both the hit & damage (using all of Sorcha's Focus) and hopefully knock some models down.
Any thoughts on the list? I'd have a pair of 7-pt Juggernauts left over on the Khador side. I could swap one of the Shocktroopers for a Juggernaut and have 2 points to spare.
Also, how newbie-friendly do you think the Carnage Tournament is? What are the character and units limits?
I'd like to get a few practice games in the next few weeks.

instead of the kovnik you might want to consider using a greylord jack marshall since he can give one focus out.

Thanks Ross. He's also a point cheaper. BTW, I also discovered that Sorcha's warjack points have to be spent on Jacks in her battlegoup.
So, how about this revised list:
Sorcha Juggernaut - 7pt
Destroyer - 9pt Koldun Lord (Jack Marshaling the Destroyer) - 2pt
Man-O-War Shocktroopers (Leader w/4 Grunts) - 9pt Man-O-War Shocktroopers (Leader w/4 Grunts) - 9pt Widowmakers - 4pt
I debated keeping the Wardog and using a full unit of Battle Mechaniks instead of the Widowmakers. What do you think?

The wardog is an auto include for any Khador list IMHO. He does so much for so little. I hate allocating resources to kill the mutt but regret it when I don't.

For Scorsha I'd argue the Wardog is not a requirement- with her wind rush she can get in/out of trouble without the dog. As for your list, I know you are just getting into the game (and have limited model selection), but I'd really look at something other then a second full strength unit of Man-O-War. They are a good unit, but pScorsha has no unit-buffing spells - they are going to be extremely slow, hit only moderately hard and don't syngergize with her feat all that well. I'd almost be tempted to dump them for the second Destroyer under Scorsha's direct command. Scorsha's Feat + 2 boosted damage Bombard shots against a stationary caster is a win in many cases. Other then that it looks not bad. I expect the tournament at Carnage to be filled with fairly experienced players, so be warned. I should be around for the next coupe of weeks if you'd like to get some practice games in. And welcome to Khador! -Will

Or, as an alternative, drop the Koldun Lord and the Juggernaut, put in the 2nd Destroyer (both with Scorsha, obviously) and keep the 2nd Man-O-War unit. Advance up the board with both Man-O-War units abreast, shield wall when you get close. They will be extremely hard to get around, and will take the first enemy charge. When in range, give a focus to each Destroyer, get Scorsha up there, Tempest if you need to clear LOS to caster, then pop feat. Move up Destroyers and have at it. Not a guaranteed win but a good shot at it. You are going to have trouble with some of the steamroller scenarios though.
Hmm, I now have two Destroyers, I should try this.....

Thanks Will. If I have the time I will try and get a game in with each list to see how it goes. Maybe I'll bring that as my second list. I'm mainly trying to make the most with what I have and get up to 35 points without a big expense. Eventually I'll pick up the Wardog and use him for a 25 point list. I'd also like to try out Vladmir Tzepesci.
What do you think of the Widowmakers? I love the models, but that usually means they will play bad in the game. Playability seems to be an inverse of the how great a model looks.

I have nearly always had the Widowmakers do well for me. They excel at killing high ARM single wound models, and do a decent job killing solos and moderate-to-high DEF models as well. They can even threaten a Warcaster sometimes. Overall an extremely useful unit for the cost (points and $$$).

Jeff - you playing in the tournament this Saturday?
Vladimir is very fun, and you will want the dog with him.

I won't be attending the Tournament this Saturday. Maybe next month... That will give time to paint up some more models and hopefully add Vladimir and the Wardog.
I did have alot of fun playing last night though. And not just because Will's dice seemed to roll an exception number of 1s & 2s. Having mu Juggernaut tossed into the water and rendered inert was really cool. I find it really interesting how much fun 3-4 models on a side can be.
