So as some of you know, the second day of gaming saw Space Wolves victorious. Blood of Kittens has posted up all the top 16 lists: bloodofkittens.com/blog/2011/04/05/adepticon-2011-pseudo-live-40k-champ-army-lists-and-anyalsis/I was particularly interested by the number 2 seed. Trukk Boyz! Not only that, but this particular Trukk boy list took MAX battle points on day one and was the best overall finisher on that day (too bad he couldn't sustain into day 2). Also worthy of note was that a little digging reveals that the number 9 seed got a 0 sportsmanship on day one. I'm sorry, but I think if all four of your opponents give you a zero for sports, you shouldn't be advancing. I'm just glad this guy didn't win the whole thing Anyway, discuss!

The 7th seed blood angels beat me in the 4rth round and served me my only defeat. His list was solid and he was an exact player. He was a good guy though. I think I could have beaten him if I had my head together. Going first was my first and biggest blunder. Oh well, live and learn!

There's nothing special about the top list at all, it's the player that wins, not the army

Ross, you suggest an interesting experiment. Generate army lists from each codex, and then have different players play each list against each other - see if, for example, space wolves always beat Dark Eldar or some such. Each list should be the nastiest that the codex can bring to the table.

unfortunately there would be too many varriables in that experiment so chances are we wouldn't get accurate results.

I think a more accurate statement would be: "the game is about 1/3rd player skill, 1/3rd list strength and 1/3rd luck"

I think list strength can be tied into player skill at least a little bit since thorugh skill you tend to design better lists.

Maybe we could all chip in 10 bucks for a prize!

I guess he figures if you hurt the squads enough they would be gone any ways. Plus Ghaz's Waaagggh could be used for turns where you lose a lot of transports and have to take a ton of low LD pinning tests.
